Does this simple(?) set of symptoms look familiar to anyone?

 I am in Outlook Express; everything is working fine. I leave the pc unattended with the screen showing my list of incoming messages.

 When I return in about 15 minutes I find the cursor (normally an arrow) is now an hourglass and my pc is frozen. I cannot retrieve any message; I cannot even close the screen by clicking the right-hand corner "X“.

 I click C-A-D and get the “Close Prograsm" sceen showing a list of about ten open programs, two of which have these names:
 Msgsrv32(not responding); and
 Uree
.
 If I highlight Msgsrv32(not responding) and then click End and then CAD\highlight\End Uree …. then (miraculously!) the pc comes back to life and I can continue to work my email and other applications.

Does anyone know what is going on here? I’d appreciate your thoughts. ….wdc

This will rebuild rather than restore the registry and also replace missing or corrupt system files

Boot the PC and keep tapping F8 right after the beep until you get options, select command prompt only, type scanreg.exe /fix then press enter, it will run through a few screens then say registry repaired. Press enter then press ctrl + alt + delete keys together to reboot.

When it has loaded, click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools, system information, tools then run system file checker and replace any files it asks for from the 98SE CD then reboot.

Keith: Thank you. I don't know that it makes a difference but I am not running W98SE; just plain old W98. ...wdc
