Hi, I need help badly, this coolsearch is driving me, and my computer nuts, more so myself. I'm up to date, and always have been with every Windows update, security and otherwise, so that is not a factor.
Also, I have downloaded Spybot, and have run it, or tryed to run it, and the computer shuts down/reboots before the program is complete, and I have even run it in SAFE MODE, and even though it completes, it says it cannot get rid of some of the problems, and will try at start up, and that fails also.
I have also downloaded and run Ad-aware SE Personal, and I have to run this program in SAFE MODE also to have it run all the way through it's program. It finds the same problems everytime it seems, and I do what it tells me but that never helps.
I can use IE6 sometimes, but never without pop ups always carrying on, no matter what I have tried I cannot solve the problem. I have downloaded cwshredder and that says I have no problems??? I have also downloaded Hijack this, and I will include the latest log. Help Me Please........... :) :tazz:

Hi tobias17 and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.
  • Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
  • In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
  • If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there
2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
  • Run HijackThis
  • Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  • POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Regards,

Trevuren

Trevuren,
I messed up when I did the operation. When you say put a check mark besides the following entries and click FIX checked, does that mean the FIX checked box at the bottom of the HijackThis page? I skipped that and went onto step 8, and then 9, etc. I think I have to do everything again, I'm sorry. I will attach below a newly updated report. Thank you, Blake

This may make things more complicated. I will try a few tricks to see if we can recover faster.

We want to stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'
  • Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK
  • Click the Extended tab.
  • Scroll down until you find the service.
    ===>Network Security Service
  • Click once on the service to highlight it.
  • Click Stop
  • Right-Click on the service.
  • Click on 'Properties'
  • Select the 'General' tab
  • Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box
  • From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'
  • Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'
The service is now stopped and disabled.

B. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT

2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service

3. Copy/Paste 11F#`I in the space provided and click OK

4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):

C:\WINDOWS\mfcim32.exe

7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

8. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Trevuren,
I tryed doing what you said, by deleting the 11F#`I, but it says it could not find that file? I have attached a new run off of HJT for you to look at. This is no fun.... Thanks for the ongoing help! Blake I see it in the latest run of HJT below, what the heck? What am I doing wrong.

Trevuren,
I tried everything you told me last night, and when I got to this point, where did you get these files that needed to be deleted from?
Start Killbox
Place a checkmark next to [x] Delete On Reboot.
Highlight the following list and Copy it (Ctrl+C) to the windows clipboard.

C:\WINDOWS\javahm32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\apixl32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysgi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mfcim32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sysgi.exe
Where do I find the following list, and copy it from, there was nothing to copy? I manually typed in each one and tryed to delete them on there own. I then tryed to reboot, and use the ewido security, and the computer shut down about half way through the scan.
Here is my latest hijackthis log, the computer is rebooting itself more, and more often, I'm about ready to throw it out the window. I still see the CoolWebSearch files also, this is one messed up computer.

Those were the files associated with the HJT entries that you had just deleted. When you copy to clipboard, you are copying to memory.. There is a place in memory reserved for things to be copied for quick retrieval and that place is called Clipboard. We got the most difficult part of the infection.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok
  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    C:\Program Files\Zdixjro\Zkleits.exe
    O4 - Global Startup: Updates from HP.lnk = C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.
  • Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

    C:\Program Files\Zdixjro<==Folder and content
    C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903<==Folder and content

  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.
Regards,

Trevuren

Trevuren,
I did, step by step what you asked, and the only thing I could not find was the following: C:\Program Files\Zdixjro<==Folder and content. Otherwise I found, and fixed and deleted everything else. Here is the latest hijack log.
Thanks, Blake

quick question,
looking at the last log I just sent to you, how comes I have two pages at the top of the list that have us9.hpwis.com as my default url, and then one that says it is Webshots. When I used to open IE, it would open to Webshots, but ever since all of this has happened, it only every uses us9.hpwis.com, or about:blank.
I have tryed to type it in, and apply webshots, but everytime I close IE, and then come back it opens with us9, or about:blank.
Just wondering how I fix that, or is that just part of this problem?
Thank you, Blake :tazz:
