Command all screwed up?

When I went to make a ms-dos start up floppy (yeah i can't believe i still have em either) on my other computer it worked fine but when i went to put the already made ms-dos in it says "the file cmd.exe is corrupt or missing". Is there A problem with my cmd.exe and if so how do i fix it.

Try typing 'command' instead.

what do u mean. I made the ms-dos on 1 computer but i got the error message on my other one with the floppy from the first computer.

lol sorry I misread it. thought you were trying to get to a dos prompt through start-->run.

As for your problem, what OS did you make the startup disk on and on what computer are you trying to use that disk on.

I would try here to get the proper files/information for making a xp boot disk

I know i made the boot disk right but i think the command.com is messed up on my computer. any clue how to check?

You can try and replace the cmd.exe on the boot disk with the one from C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 and see if that solves your problem. I have no idea that it'll work, just a suggestion :tazz:

i don't need the boot disk. it's just that i think the cmd.exe or command.exe or command.com or whatever on my computer is messed up. and i've already thought of trying to restore the one from i368 but it's still the same.

Please Visit Jotti.org and submit cmd.exe for testing by clicking "Browse," navigating to the correct file, Clicking "Open," then "Submit."

Report back in this topic if anything was found, because while searching I discovered a virus that will replace the original cmd.exe file with a fake command window.

By the way, are you able to get a to a command window by typing 'cmd' from the run command? (START-->RUN)

yeah the command window works fine but when i try and do command.com it says "see attachment". I dont know how to understand the scan results but here.

what is displayed?
