Hi

Am having problems with a friends windows 98 pc. basically the mouse goes into overdrive and is uncontrolable. it seems to have a mind of its own and i cant do a thing with it. this happens completely randomly, but not in safe mode. i am guessing some sort of spyware but the latest versions of GIANT, Spybot and adaware say i am clean. have a current version of Norton which also says clear and have tried Panda again all clear

any ideas before i blow the install away and rebuild from scratch

Hi Andy. Welcome to GTG. :tazz:

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log as a new topic in the Hijack This forum. It will get a better response there from the people most qualified to analyze logs.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide. Also see this post.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Hi andychrisnixon

I would try first to uninstall and reinstall the mouse, uninstall the mouse first and then reboot the cp, 98 should find it and install its drivers for the mouse again. It does sound like you are having a driver issue, maybe the current drivers you have is too new for 98.

this happens completely randomly, but not in safe mode.

Safe mode would mean that you are running with the mouse with generic drivers, when you boot back into full 98, the drivers that are currently installed are causing the mouse to do some freaky stuff. :tazz: Hope this helps
