Hi, Im new here.. I am having a few troubles with my computer....

Yesterday I came to the computer to log onto AIM to speak to a few friends, then I noticed something very odd. In the lower righthand corner there was a box that said something like "Scanning E-mail" and periodically it would come up and say [email protected] is an unregistered member can not send. I clicked okay. From what I could tell my computer was sending out thousands of e-mails to people I don't know. Since I knew this wasn't right, and someone has to be sending out e-mails from my computer I unpluged the cable modem. I then tried to open up Nortons and scan the system, nortons would not open. I somehow found a way to get the program open and I clicked on Full system scan and nothing happened. I could not scan my computer. I ran a few of the Adware and hijacking programs I had and it found a lot of stuff, but thats not too uncomon.. I run it at least once every 3 days and it always finds stuff. Another odd thing was that whenever I clicked on the internet explorer icon a small little window would open up in the lower right hand corner, and I would have to maximize it to see the homepage. The page's wouldnt come up reguar size untill I clicked on the maximize button. So then I ran system restore and that got the internet windows back to normal, but not the Nortons. I decided to shut if off for the night and try again tomorrow. I woke up this morning, came to the computer to try my luck again. Still the same thing... I left and came back about an hour later and the Icon for my Nortons dissapeared, it was just gone. I searched for it everywhere and I couldn't find it. Now im a little bit panicked, so I plug in the modem again to see if I have some friends who can help me out. The E-mailing stopped, as far as I can tell... so I click on my AIM icon and it says "service cannot be reached"... so I check to see if my internet connection is okay, and it is... so then I try my Yahoo Messanger, and it won't let me log on either, then I try my MSN messager, no luck.. and finally I try my Windows messanger and that wouldnt work either. I then tried going to AIM.com and using AIM express, the page came up and said it could not be displayed.

I am, at this moment, running the Trend Micro's free online scan, since I no longer have an anti-virus program. It says that it found 4 differnt virus's...

-TROJ IMSERV.C
-TROJ IMSERV.C
-TROJ IMSERV.C
-TROJ STILEN.A

it also says that they are uncleanable.
I have resurched these virus's and found out that they are nothing more then low risk adware virus's..... and I don't believe they could cause this much damage to my computer. I really am unsure about what to do now. I would really appriciate it if someone could please help me.

Thanks,
Dave

Someone been using you as a spam-distributor? :tazz:

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us7.hpwis.com/

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://us7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://srch-us7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://srch-us7.hpwis.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://srch-us7.hpwis.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://us7.hpwis.com/

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows TaskAd] C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd\WinTaskAd.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Windows Task Manager] C:\windows\system32\taskmgn.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE

O4 - Global Startup: hp center.lnk = C:\Program Files\hp center\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe
O4 - Global Startup: LimeWire 3.8.4.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\3.8.4\LimeWire.exe
O4 - Global Startup: LimeWire 4.0.7.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire 4.0.7\LimeWire.exe

O16 - DPF: {1D0D9077-3798-49BB-9058-393499174D5D} - file://c:\counter.cab

Reboot after doing so, preferably into safe mode and delete:
C:\Program Files\Windows TaskAd <= entire folder
c:\counter.cab
C:\windows\system32\taskmgn.exe <= http://www3.ca.com/s...s.aspx?id=39437

Then download a free trial of TDS3 from here:
http://tds.diamondcs...x.php?page=home
Update as described here:
http://tds.diamondcs...php?page=update
When that is ready click System Testing > Full sytem scan
Delete everything it gives you a positive identification on.

The last part is mostly to put my mind at ease. RBOT shuts down a lot of other viruses and trojans so it can work alone.
Also it is often planted on your computer by using other trojans, so I would certainly run that scan to find all that possible crap.

Regards,

Pieter

Thanks, i did all that... but I still can't use my instant messangers, or sign into some websites... like I can't sign into any MSN websites. For my Messangers it tells me to connect to the internet then try again, but I am connected to the internet so I dont know what to do
