Is it my computer or the program? I have had slow downs and viruses recently, and had updated my Norton Antivirus 2005. Attempting to do a full system scan and it has been stuck on file 213097 for 2 days now, and will not finish the scan. Is it my computer, the software? Do I need to run it in safe mode? You are talking to a complete computer retard so go easy on me. Thanks n

Click start then all programmes, accessories, system tools, run disc clean up then from system tools run disc defragmenter.

Click start then run, type %TEMP% then press enter, delete any files it will allow

Click start then search, include hidden and system files, type prefetch then press enter, you get one folder, open it then press edit then select all, right click any file then press delete, confirm delete.

Reboot

Run an online scan here

http://www.pandasoft...com/activescan/

and / or here

http://housecall60.t...orp.asp?id=scan

If these run OK then boot to safe mode, run Norton, then boot Windows normally then run Norton

Update: After the housecall scan, it cleaned up a pile of viruses and some spyware. Ran the norton in safe mode and normal mode and everything came out squeaky clean. Thanks to Keith for his insights, and I'm sure this won't be the last of my problems!!! thanks again. n :tazz:
