Hi. It all started about a week and a half ago. I started getting random pop up ads on my computer about every 10-20 minutes. When the pop ups first load they say "affiliate targ..." something like that, on the title. Then they forward to a US military pop up page or something else random.

Then about a week ago, my IE windows started freezing. It doesnt freeze when i open IE (my homepage is google) but then when i try to open up a new site whether its on my favorites, or typed in, it will load VERY slowly and most of the time my whole IE window will freeze, not allowing me to click anything on it, if i minimize it during this time i usually can never get the window back up. And once it freezes, it freezes all the other IE windows i have or if i try to open a new window it freezes as well.

Now since yesterday i've been getting the "Blue screen of death" as they call it. Ive gotten it twice within the last 48 hours. I have no idea whats going on but my computer keeps saying i have malicious hardware or software. I get it while my computer is on, not even during startup or anything. While its up and running. Also earlier today my computer just logged itself off and returned to the windows Log on screen for no reason. someone please help.

Hello,

I don't see an antivirus and firewall... so this is our first step to take care of most of it.
If you are having problems with IE to surf, please use firefox instead.
Download firefox from here: http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/
We'll deal with your IE later

Now I want you to install an antivirus.
Download and install Kaspersky: http://www.kaspersky...apter=146481750

Let it update first after installing it.

After update and install, let it perform a FULL scan and let it delete everything it is finding.

REBOOT afterwards and post a new hijackthislog. We'll start from there then. :tazz:

Hello,

It seems like Kaspersky already did a great job!
Many items found I suppose. :tazz:

Let's deal with the leftovers now..

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://yoursearch.ws/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://yoursearch.ws/
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {409A5268-EA30-F8C2-242C-695069E32C06} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\8cqIW8ru.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7A1693A1-AFAF-4F1E-9B05-EEC38A85FBF3} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\4b09c.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Plook] C:\Program Files\PLook\plook.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Plook] C:\Program Files\PLook\plook.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.r...ip/RdxIE601.cab
O21 - SSODL: sEgMkTgBt - {409A5262-EA30-F8C8-6AA8-586469E32C03} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hjgf.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: Power Manager (PowerManager) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Go to start > run and copy and paste next commands in the field:

sc stop PowerManager Click OK
sc delete PowerManager Click OK.

Look if next folder is still present and delete it:

C:\Program Files\PLook

Perform a full scan with an updated Adaware SE and/or Spybot S&D to get rid of the leftovers.
If you don't have those programs yet, you can find the downloadlocations in my sig.

Reboot once again and post a new hijackthislog.

Ok, let's take a look what's probably still hiding there..

Download winpfind

Reboot in SAFE MODE !! Important !!
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key

Doubleclick winpfind.exe
Click start Scan.
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Let it finish the job.

Reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of winpfind.txt which is present in the winpfind-folder in your next reply.

Hi,

Well I see 3 items that look a bit suspicious.... so I want to know what they exactly are..

can you go to next site:
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

On top you'll find: File to upload and scan.
Now browse to next files and submit them one by one.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\service\dll.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\4b09c.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\service\explorer.exe <== please make sure you upload this one that is present in the service-folder!! Because there are other explorer.exe's also present on your system that are legit.

Click submit and let it scan.
Post the results in your next reply.

Edit: Do you know this? C:\50fullpiggybank.avi
Did you download it yourself? It's an avi (movie).

the 50fullpiggybank is just a 50 cent video i downloaded. i just deleted it though.

problem with the other files you wanted to see though, apparently they dont exist. I have no \service folder in the system32 directory. And also the C:\WINDOWS\system32\4b09c.dll is not there either.

Hmm, or this is only showing in safe mode, or you didn't set your hidden files and folders.

To show your hidden files and folders:

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Search again for it.

If you can't find it, boot again in safe mode with networking support this time (because you have to upload and submit it at jotti) and search for those files in safe mode and upload them in safe mode.

Hi,

Can you boot in safe mode and zip the entire C:\WINDOWS\system32\service -folder? Because I want everything that is inside. If it's too big, just send me the files inside that folder seperately.
I don't think you will be able to zip it in normal mode, that's why the safe mode.

Send it here:

miekiemoesATmalware-research.co.uk (AT=@)

Also, send me this file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\4b09c.dll

After you send it, delete it.
Let me know here if you send them, so I can check.
