I ran latest version of Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, and Ewidow and still having problems. Here is my Hijack log. THanks.

During the fix, u will be asked to fix some entries, delete some files or uninstall some programs. If in case, you do not see those entries / files / programs, please make a note of it. Continue with the fix and in your next post please inform me of all deviations from the fix prescribed.

1. Download Programs

Please download these programs and save them in a new folder on your desktop -

CleanUp
Ewido Security Suite

Install Ewido, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

CWShredder

Update CWShredder

* Open CWShredder and click I AGREE
* Click Check For Update
* Close CWShredder

Nailfix Utility
DO NOT run it yet.

dsrfix.zip

• Unzip dsrfix.zip and extract it to your desktop.
• This will create a new folder on your desktop named dsrfix.
• Do Not open that folder yet.

2. Remove Infections

Click on Start ---> Run. Type Services.msc and hit enter. Locate the item - Command Service. Right click on it and then click on properties. In the Startup Type choose the option Disable. Close the window.


Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.exe.
Click "Next" in the setup, then make sure "Run Nailfix" is checked and click "Finish".
Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Run CWShredder. Click I Agree, then Fix and then Next, let it fix everything it asks about.

Run CleanUp and delete all temp files including temporary internet files

Run Ewido full scan. Let it fix any items it finds.

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

4. Delete Rogue files

Now open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.

• Double-Click on dsrfix.bat
• A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -

My Web Search
Suf SideKick 3
Virtual Bouncer
Media Access
Media Gateway

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

(please do not delete the file lsass.exe, a critical and important system file. If you find multiple instances of this file, then make a note of the file sizes and the dates of creation and let me know in your next reply)

(Search for this file using the Windows Search function)


Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch. It will open the folder Prefetch. Delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!


Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.


Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Ewido scan report.

Close all windows other than Hijack This. Check the boxes next to above items and click on Fix checked.

4. Delete Rogue files

Now open the folder dsrfix on your desktop.

• Double-Click on dsrfix.bat
• A window will pop up briefly then close, this is normal.

Open Add or Remove Programs (click on Start ---> Settings ---> Control panel. This should be the 3rd item). Uninstall or remove the following items -

My Web Search
Suf SideKick 3
Virtual Bouncer
Media Access
Media Gateway

Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

Clear out the files in the Prefetch folder. Go to start> run> type into the box Prefetch. It will open the folder Prefetch. Delete all the files in that folder. Dont delete the folder, only the files in it !!!!!!!!


Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.


Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Ewido scan report.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

go to the folder C:\Windows\system32.

Check for the file l?[bleep].exe.


(the forum is editing the word a s s, so check for the file l ? a s s.exe, minus the spaces between the various letters)

You may have multiple instances of the file - lsass.exe in the folder. In such a case make note of the file sizes and the dates of creation of the different files and post it back here

OK. There were two files in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. My fault for not seeing these earlier. Sorry.

LSA S S.EXE (minus the spaces), 33KB, Modifed 6/19/2003 3:05PM and
lsa s s.exe (minus the spaces), 392KB, Modified 8/8/2005 9:26AM

Restart the PC in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap the F8 key when the PC is starting up).


Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following folders and files -

Folders
C:\WINDOWS\System32\nsvsvc
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vidctrl

Files
C:\WINDOWS\System32\abthz.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\cqdial32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\lsa ss.exe
(this is the file which is 392 KB is size and date of creation is 8/8/2005)



Reboot the PC and check if the files have been deleted.

As a precaution, I want you to do an online scan.

Online scans have certain advantages -

1) they are updated on a regular basis and can track the latest identified infections and their mutations

2) they dont get infected and therefore can do a better job of scanning your PCs

Please visit Panda and do an online scan. Save the scan report.

Run Hijack This and post a fresh HJT log along with Panda scan report.

I tried the Panda Software scan 3 times and each time it crashed IE. It got through download of Active x components, updating to latest dat files, but crashed each time during scan of "My Computer". I tried rebooting but got same results.

I ran HT anyway and posted below.
