Hey, recently the winfixer program has been popping up asking my computer if it would liked to be scanned or something. Now a blank window keeps popping up saying ERROR DETECTED! from winfixer. As well some trafficexplorer program keeps redirecting my sites and searching for a wide variety of items, from shopping to fox news to adult movies. Every time it pops up this portrait of two girls wearing hats comes up, i can send it if u want :tazz:
Anyways heres my HijackThis log. THANK U SO MUCH in advance. :)

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
  • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
    • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
  • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  • Double click on KillVundo.bat
    • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
  • Please press any key to continue.
  • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\chars\msvcreg.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: msvcreg - C:\WINDOWS\msagent\chars\msvcreg.dll

  • Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.
You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

THANK U SOOOOOOO MUCH I think that blasted winfixer has finally left the building.
Im so sorry for burdening you with more questions, but you need not answer them if you dont have the time
1. Winfixer - where do i get this [bleep] and can i use the same process to get rid of it it if ever reinfected?
2. 2 months ago my then 14 month computer's fan began acting up, now it goes off for 3 mins every 10mins, is this a software related issue or strictly hardware (slightly aged computer)?
and finally
3. Ad-Aware detects two files which i cannot seem to locate - Bargain Buddy C:\System VolumeInformation\_restore{some reg value} - the System VolumeInformation folder doesnt seem to exist and - Favoriteman C:\WINDOWS\iun6002.exe - the file iun6002.exe doesnt exist

If u dont have the time to answer my questions i completely understand, you have already done much more than enough for me. THANKS ONCE AGAIN MAN :)

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entry by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE

Exit HijackThis when done. Then follow this sequence:

1. Right-click My Computer>Click Properties>Click the System Restore tab>Check the box next to 'Turn off System Restore on all drives'>Click Apply>Click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Repeat the process but this time remove the check from the box.

As for your questions, I'm not sure where you get it but it is probably a drive-by download. To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:

So how did I get infected in the first place?

The fan - sounds hardware related to me.

The AAW detections, the first should be gone now from the actions above, the second - it may be hidden - do this so you can see hidden files and folders:

Go to Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View, select:

>Show hidden files and folders
>Display the contents of system folders

Uncheck:

>Hide protected operating system files

Next go to Search>All files and folders>More advanced options and click.

Be sure the first three boxes are selected:

>Search System folders
>Search Hidden Files and folders
>Search SubFolders

Let me know.

I AM MALWARE FREE
Thank You soooooo much Daemon, my computer feels as fresh as when I first laid eyes on her.
After following ur instructions bargain buddy met its doom.
Then after revealing all that system stuff Favoriteman was shot down as well.
In addition after i finished the vundofix last night, this morning the fan is no longer making any noise whatsoever... for now, if it acts up again then Ill just have to clean/replace it.
As for winfixer I think I probably got it after my friends began surfing ebaumsworld and other garbage sites. The problem started after they finished :tazz:

WELL I guess all there is left to do i derfrag and set a system restore point.

My outmost thanks!

You're welcome - glad to help :tazz: You've already set a restore point - I had you do it earlier.

To help keep you clean follow the recommendations in Tony's article here:
