Hello all. I've been trying for the past week to get rid of some spyware on my computer but with no luck. I was hoping someone here would be able to help me. I keep getting pop-ups, some with music and soundfx in them, as well as everytime I start up my computer, it is if it had been reset. eg) all my settings are put back to factory settings, all of the message boxes that I have ticked to 'Do not display this message again' have all come back.
Thanks in advance
-Edd

Hello Bighead_Edd :tazz:

Download LQfix.exe and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick LQfix.exe and click install.
This will create a new folder called LQfix on your desktop.
Open the folder and doubleclick ClickThis.bat
Follow the prompts on the screen.
Your system will reboot afterwards.
Please be patient after reboot, because there is a script running in the background

Post a new Hijack log and we will continue

Thanks :)

Hello Bighead_Edd :tazz:

Download and install CleanUp! Here
but do not run it yet.
*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = C:\WINDOWS\_s.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,(Default) = C:\WINDOWS\_s.html
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = C:\WINDOWS\_h.html
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IEACCESS] C:\WINDOWS\system32\temp532.exe -N
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [lsass] c:\windows\system32\elitevpl32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [System service65] C:\WINDOWS\etb\pokapoka65.exe
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'http' protocol is in My Computer Zone, should be Internet Zone (HKLM)
O16 - DPF: {15AD6789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://static.windup.../bridge-c18.cab
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.r...ip/RdxIE601.cab

O16 - DPF: {FFFF0003-0001-101A-A3C9-08002B23E0CC} - http://direct.data-line.us/gba562.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\etb

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

c:\windows\system32\elitevpl32.exe

Now run cleanup

After that, Reboot.

run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here with a new hijack log

I rebooted into safe mode, but the folder and file you said to delete weren't there, so I ran cleapup and it deleted 49905 files freeing up 655mb.

Heres the results from the online scan.

I've deleted all of those files with that program, and ran another scan with cleanup. It deleted 2879 files and cleared up 77.2mb
The computer is running a lot faster, with no pop-ups so far! :)
Heres the new HiJackThis logfile.

That looks good :tazz:

your system is clean

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
