When I run C:\Documents and Settings\x>ipconfig my WINDOWS IP configuration comes back to me for both my

Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection

and my

Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

as "DHCP enabled. . . . . . . . . : No"

However, when I run the XP Network Diagnostics tool I get both back as enabled.

Under the "Internet Protocol TCP/IP" properties of the LAN the configuration of my TCP/IP is set to "obtain IP address automatically from DHCP server"

Is this another clue as to what could be happening?


I also ran a TCP/IP reset (netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt) ... still no luck.


PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!!!

I began more tests with dsenette yesterday ... ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew .... anyone around to help me ?

ipconfig/release comes back as:

all ZERO's .... (good, right?)

then followed by ipconfig/renew :

I got my wireless back with a 192. IP
but my Ethernet LAN came back with a 169. IP .....

how are you connected with this machine? wireless or wired?

I was wireless ... my Router got fried by a (FREAK) lightning bolt that hit my building, so I wanted to go through my "wired" router ... a 3Com Office Connect Remote 812 ADSL Router. ... but every time I try to configure the router I get a message that says that the computer cannot connect with the Router ..

However, right now I'm in the office and not connected to anything ... its "stand alone" on the desk next to me .... (is that a problem?)

ok......then....if your wireless router got "Fried"....your wireless card should not be getting an address....unless it's configured statically

It picks up signals of networks in my neighborhood.
It's configured with IP Automatic ... (I think that's what it says ... my OS is XP Home ... but Spanish ... so I have to translate all my responses to you)

it may pick up signals from your neighborhood but it shouldnt be automatically connecting to those networks...thats the only way it could et an ip address

My "provisional" dial-up connection through my modem works fine (slow, but fine) and the TCP/IP Protocol is set to Automatic IP as well.

I did a "Network Diagnostics" on my machine at work as well as an ipconfig/all to see what came back ... and oddly enough the DHCP comes back the same as on my laptop ... In XP's "Network Diagnostic" it is "enabled" but in the ipconfig dialog window it comes back as "DHCP enabled ......... no"

Here's a stupid question:

I'm trying to install/configure my ADSL router with a "network cable" that I have from the office ... is that the same as an "Ethernet cable"? ... I discarded the "Crossover cable" as not valid .... right?

are you connecting directly to the router? if so you probably do need that crossover cable
