Hi All -

New to this forum and I'm looking for some help. I am helping a friend remove all the lovely spyware/malware/software from their machine. I've run a number of utilities trying to get rid of everything that pops up. Adaware was able to remove a bunch of spyware, but there must be something embedded in there because I can litterly reboot the machine run the scans again and recieve minimal 30+ pieces of new spyware added on. Also with the VX2 add-on detects an object, but fails to remove it. I've also run Ewido, which I saw from someone else on the forum, which picked up a few other objects of it's own. Unfortunately, whatever is in there just doesn't want to come out so I'm turning to this forum to see if I can get some help. Any would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Here's my HiJackThis log:

Hello and welcome..

Looks like Aurora.. You might have L2m as well.. Let's start with this :)

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from HERE (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version 1.0.6 and always go online and update it before you run it).

If it's NOT the version 1.0.6, can you then uninstall your current version/delete folder: C:\Program Files\Lavasoft & empty recycle bin. Finally install the latest version.

Download Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in HERE
  • Install the VX2 Cleaner
  • Start Ad-Aware SE
  • Go to "Plug-ins"
  • Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run Tool" (Before running the VX2 Cleaner, make sure other anti-virus or anti-spyware applications are closed.)
  • Click "OK" when asked if you want to execute this tool.
  • If your computer isn't infected, click "Close".
If your computer is infected;
  • Select "Clean"
  • Reboot your system.
  • Scan your computer with Ad-Aware:

Set up the Configurations as follows:
    • Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
    • Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
    • Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
    3. Click on "Proceed"
    4. Click on "Scan Now"
    5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
    6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
    7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
    8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
    9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
    10. Check the box next to every "target family" for removal.
    11. Click "Next", Click "OK".

  • Reboot your computer again
  • Run a second scan (With Ad-aware & VX2 Cleaner) to make sure the files have been removed from your computer
Next..

Please download the l2mfix from one of the locations below;

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double-click l2mfix.exe

Click the Install - button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.

Copy the contents of that log and paste it into your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until I ask you to!

Note; if you recieve any error messages for CMD or Autoexec.bat>> select option 5 from the l2mfix and once at the site, click on the link that apply to your operating system!

Double-click the file it downloads and extract the files to its predetermined System32 folder!

Also post a fresh HijackThis log (Don't attach) along with L2Mfix log.

I think you were right with it being Aurora. I was able to get rid of a couple registry keys for nail.exe which after running the Ewido started to show. It looks like nail.exe was part of the Aurora. Also, Adaware is no longer detecting a VX2. Here's the logs to see if I missed anything.

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double-click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Wow.. Ok, let's clean that up, then :)

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\axpfuns.exe
C:\WINDOWS\evtafwqi.dll
C:\WINDOWS\ssqb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\1800411.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\1800414.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\1802.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\1803.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\18030406.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\180621.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\180629.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\better0503.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\better621.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\better629.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bizzard.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bizzard0426.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\blizzard.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\blizzard621.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\blizzard629.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\booknew.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\downloadcomreporter.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\e2give.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\exact.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\golden513.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\golden621.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\golden629.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pop0406b.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\pop0426.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qool414.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ssm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\stoye\fymrcy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\vertone.exe

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Now run the CleanUp program:

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
  • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
    • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
Then post a fresh HiJackThis log.

If you notice some new keys in there it's because I removed Norton and install McAfee.

Ok.. We need to get rid of one bad service now:

Click Start => Run => and type in;

services.msc

Click "OK".

In the services window find service; okssnpjohgyrvn

Right-click and choose "Properties". On the "General" tab under "Service Status" click the "Stop" button to stop the service. Beside "Startup Type" in the dropdown menu select "Disabled". Click Apply then "Ok". Exit the Services utility.
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete an NT service"
  • Copy and paste this in: okssnpjohgyrvn
  • Click "ok", then reboot
Once rebooted, navigate to, and delete this folder:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ohgyrvn\okssnpj.exe

Then do this:
  • Clean out temporary files:
  • Click Start -> Run and type in: cleanmgr
  • Click "Ok".
  • Let it scan your system.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only ones checked.
  • Click "OK" to remove them.
  • Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.
Download cureit;
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

Run drweb - cureit
Double-click the "drweb-cureit.exe" and click "ok" in the prompt window that will open, asking "start the express scan now".
It will first make a quick scan of your system, let it clean what it finds, and when it says "done" in the lower left corner click on all your drive's.
A red dot will mark the selected drive(s) . Then hit the pedestrian who now has turned green.
Click on the green man in the right corner, it will scan ALL your drive's, hit yes to all.

Reboot.

Post a fresh HiJackThis log once finished. :tazz:

The okssnpjohgyrvn doesn't exist in my list under Services. Also tried using the HijackThis to delete the service and it confirmed that it wasn't in the registry. The ohgyrvn folder however does exist, but is empty (I have Show All files checked.) I didn't go on from that point because I wanted to see what my next step should be.

Okay was able to delete the folder just fine. Then I finished out the rest of the process you wanted. Cure-it found 6 items which it deleted.

Here's the new HijackThis log:
