Okay- I did the three fixme.reg's - but if I open taskmaager>file>new task (run) and then put c: and press enter - the problem that I mentioned in the last post happens. A flash and then nothing comes up and then the box with the message on if I try again. I assume u nedd to get into My Computer to get to the control panel - unless there is a command line you can put into the task manager that would open it.

If u want I can take screen caps of each action to make sure I am doing things right and then email them or psot here if they are not to big.

So bascially, you go to open my computer, and nothing happens? You don't see control panel in your start button menu?

I had the same problem as before - during install a box came up and said that the ATAPI driver was in use.

I did look up what driver it was and I think it is for the CD player. Is it possible to delete the driver and download it after installing service pk 1? That would be my only option since I have no way of moving it to another folder.

Would you consider ordering the disc? There is a option on that page to do so.

The Atapi driver disc? I could do that - I just want to make sure that that is all that it runs, is the cd drive: because I don't really use it all that much - so as long as it wasn't detremental to any other processes I would remove it and worry about it later.

Does that seem like an option?

Man I am out of options here. I tried the copy /paste but it said it couldn't because it was in use. I have no idea where it is in use or what... so I cant shut it down.

My friend suggested that I try to install XP over top of the one I have - I have a copy umpacked on my computer but not on disk - so it seems paradoxal: Can Xp install itself on top of an older version of itself - by using a file from the old version on the hard drive?

If it works - he said it would not delete the files on the system - would it help fix the registry? Or perhaps might I then be able to run service pack 1?

I dunno - I am running out of options I believe but - still holding out.

Appreciate all the help and advice.
