Im running windows XP PRO SP2 and recently my home networkhas for some reason stopped functioning.

I'm almost certain is software related but my set is a D-Link Hub and both computers are connected via ics with the client computer being on XP Home SP1.

When I right click on 'local area connection' and look at its properties, when I click on the authenticication tab everything is greyed out and I can't click anything on that tab. Eg, I can't select "enable IEEE 802.1x authenticication for this network".

A few days ago my network was running perfectly, I do have 2 versions of windows running on the same HDD in the same partition (XP HOME and PRO) could that be stopping my network from working, or could it be to do with a certain service I have disabled on services.msc

Have you recently upgraded to sp2? Disabled any services? I know it is not recommended to have two operating systems on the same partition. I didn't know you were able to actually install 2 Os's on the same partition. Did you just recently add that second OS? Any of these could be part of the problem.
