Hello:
Please can you help me with the darn WinAntiSpyware popups that just keep on coming. It's so frustrating. I've run AdAware and Spybot, but it's still there. Please can someone help me, and any advice on future protection is much appreciated, especially since we're getting another pc soon.

• Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
  
• POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

Your system is infected by the VUNDO trojan

• Download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
• Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
  • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
• Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
  
  
• Double click on KillVundo.bat
  • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
• Please press any key to continue.
  
  
• Wait for HiJackThis to open.
  
  
• When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

Please do the following:

• Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
  
  http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
  http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe
  
  
• Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  
• Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then OPEN the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  
• Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #"1" for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing Enter.
  
• This will scan your computer and it may appear as if nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log.
  
• Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

I ran L2MFIX as instructed. I received a messgae that said:

I closed the application, and the report came up in notepad.

New Vundo Fix came out tonight. Let's give it a whirl.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• Please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
  
  
  • C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB899591$\imgtask.dll
• Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
• The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
• In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Here is the HJT log. It looks like evrything is still there. Can't seem to remove it. Plus, now I am beginning to see WINFIXER 2005 and Win ANTIVirus Pro popups aswell. It seems to be getting worse. If I ever get my hands on the people that write these virus programs, .............ugh

We want to stop, disable and delete an added service (023)

A. To stop a service and set to 'disabled'

• Go to Start > Run and type in Services.msc then click OK
  
• Click the Extended tab.
  
• Scroll down until you find the service.
  ===>Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0
  
• Click once on the service to highlight it.
  
• Click Stop
  
• Right-Click on the service.
  
• Click on 'Properties'
  
• Select the 'General' tab
  
• Click the Arrow-down tab on the right-hand side on the 'Start-up Type' box
  
• From the drop-down menu, click on 'Disabled'
  
• Click the 'Apply' tab, then click 'OK'

The service is now stopped and disabled.


B. We will now delete the service:

1. Open HJT

2. Click on Config>>Misc Tools>>Delete an NT Service

3. Copy/Paste rpcapd in the space provided and click OK

4. The program will ask you to REBOOT --- Accept

5. REBOOT into SAFE MODE

6. Using Windows Explorer, locate and DELETE the following file (if it still is present):

C:\ProgramFiles\WinPcap<==Folder

7. REBOOT back into Normal Mode

8. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Please can you tell me what is "rpcapd" that I am suppose to Copy/Paste into the HJT "delete an NT service" box. Where do I find this rpcapd?

Sorry for the question, but I just want to make sure that I delete the right thing.
