Hi,
I got this computer used, and do not have Excel available. My system runs Windows XP. I do have Microsoft Word 2002, but when I try to open it I get an error message that says it is looking for an application to open WORDRET.MSI, and then the next error message is Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Word does eventually open up, but I get this error message when I startup my computer, too. Do I need to buy Windows Office XP to fix Word and get Excel?

Thanks, Beth

Hi bhayden21

It appears that Word could have been installed over a network or a feature run from the installation CD. If you have the installation CD then try re-installing. If you don't and it isn't a problem, I would suggest purchasing Office XP or 2003 then you would have the whole package of applications.
