Good Morning

I am back after having had a brilliant game of golf yesterday, only 8 over par for the round.

Now turning my attention to your plight, the problem is almost certainly something to do with your browser, Operating System or security by either antivirus or anti spyware. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you need to go through TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>ADVANCED>RESTORE DEFAULTS.

I notice that in your last HJT log, Pest Patrol is running in real-time. Ensure that is disabled along with any others that you may have.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Crusty,

Great to hear that you had a good day on the course. 8 over par means you could turn pro if you wanted too!

I am in Melb Australia so it is 7.20PM on Friday night here!

I will disable the recommended programs. I have the following operating:

Ewido
PestPatrol
Spywareblaster

Should I disable all?

Hi Crusty,

I shut down Ewido, PestPatrol and Spyware Blaster and restored the settings on IE.

Then tried to double click on the Silent Runner.vbs and still got the same error as before.

Does it matter that I am using Firefox as well?

Yes please, disable them.

It used to be an ambition of mine to turn pro, and in my younger days, I reckon I could have made it if I had the time to devote to the game and didn't have the stress factor. Now, due to Menieres Disease, I cannot work (nobody wants me) and have lots of time on my hands. But now I can play when I am well enough, but I can't really afford to play; this may be my last membership year. However, I think I am a bit too old for the professional game now, and I definitely lack the suppleness of a younger torso.

It shouldn't matter. It would appear that browsers and security are not our problem here. Try running SFC (System File Checker).

The scan will automatically replace any corrupt files that it finds.

Click Start
Select Run
At the prompt type sfc /scannow Please note that there is a single space between sfc and /scannow.

Typing this will start the programme, and a box should appear telling you how much longer the process should take.

Sometimes the scan will prompt you for your Windows XP disc upon starting the scan. if this happens please make sure that you can view protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Uncheck" Hide protected operating system files.
Then rerun the scan.

Once the scan is complete:

Check your Windows Updates! After using the File Protection Service, you might need to reapply some updates.

Please reboot, and let me know if anything has changed.

Also, please rehide the protected files:My Computer
Tools
Folder Options
View
"Check" Hide protected operating system files.

Hi Crusty,

Sorry to hear about the disease, and hope that you can continue to get at least some games in, because it sounds like you enjoy it.

But you are doing a fantastic job with helping people here.

Not sure what the problem is but still getting the same issue when I double click on the Silent Runners.vbs file.

Any other suggestions?

If that doesn't work, we'll use a different scanner.
