Winfixer/Trafficexplorer et al [RESOLVED]

Greetings:

I've gone through all the required steps:

1. Clean-up - uneventful
2. Ad-aware - uneventful, except for tracking cookies
3. CW Shredder - uneventful
4. Spybot S&D - uneventful, except for tracking cookies (note: I did not d/l the DSO Exploit Fix, as it was for v. 1.3, and I d/led v. 1.4)
5. Ewido - 177 items removed
6. Trend housecall - uneventful, except it would not generate a report
7. Windows always updated.

Note: Panda - tried Panda earlier in the day, and it would close on me about 55% of the way through.

I have a licensed copy of PC-Cillin, which I keep updated at all times, and I also run the MS AntiSpyware program.

Symptoms: I usually run Firefox, but occasionally will be running IE. When firing up IE, within an hour or so, I get the Winfixer popups - 2 days ago, trafficexplorer opened 34 - count 'em - 34 browser windows within moments.

I usually practice safe computing, but obviously let something through.

Click here to download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
- All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
Double click on KillVundo.bat
- When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
Please press any key to continue.
Wait for HiJackThis to open.
When HiJackThis opens, click Scan. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\winurl.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winurl - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\winurl.dll
Once they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.

You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal! Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows, manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix
