I have two issues that may or may not be related but they seemed to occur at the same time

I am unable to use my SBC email. I can address, forward, type in the subject and attach and send but I am unable to actually type in the text body. I have spent hours, I mean hours on the phone w/ SBC support to no avail.

Additionally I have the Aurara ABI Network virus that I can't get rid of.

I have followed all your instructions and I am at the point of posting the Hijack this log for your review.

ANYY help will be appreciated!! Thanxx in advance.

Tom

Hello and welcome!

Let's start with this..

First, please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download DelDomains.inf to your desktop.
To use: RIGHT-CLICK DelDomains.inf and select: Install (no need to restart)

After that..

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from HERE (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version 1.0.6 and always go online and update it before you run it).

If it's NOT the version 1.0.6, can you then uninstall your current version/delete folder: C:\Program Files\Lavasoft & empty recycle bin. Finally install the latest version.

Download Lavasoft's VX2 Cleaner plug-in HERE
  • Install the VX2 Cleaner
  • Start Ad-Aware SE
  • Go to "Plug-ins"
  • Select the VX2 Cleaner plug-in and click "Run Tool" (Before running the VX2 Cleaner, make sure other anti-virus or anti-spyware applications are closed.)
  • Click "OK" when asked if you want to execute this tool.
  • If your computer isn't infected, click "Close".
If your computer is infected;
  • Select "Clean"
  • Reboot your system.
  • Scan your computer with Ad-Aware:

Set up the Configurations as follows:
    • Click the Gear wheel at the top of the Ad-Aware window
    • Click General > Safety & Settings: Check (Green) all three.
    • Click Tweak > Cleaning Engine > UNcheck "Always try to unload modules before deletion".
    3. Click on "Proceed"
    4. Click on "Scan Now"
    5. Deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
    6. Select "Search for low-risk threats"
    7. Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.
    8. When the scan has completed, select Next.
    9. In the Scanning Results window, select the "Scan Summary" tab.
    10. Check the box next to every "target family" for removal.
    11. Click "Next", Click "OK".

  • Reboot your computer again
  • Run a second scan (With Ad-aware & VX2 Cleaner) to make sure the files have been removed from your computer
Once finished, please post a fresh HiJackThis log.

Nope.. Not clean yet.

Before continuing, we need to do this..

First, download LSPfix.exe to a convenient location. Do NOT run this program. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing NewDotNet.

To Get rid of NewDotNet, go to:

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following:

New.Net Applications or New.Net Domains (anything that says New.Net)

If it is not there, go here and follow Procedure 4; NewDotNet Removal Procedure 4.

After the uninstallation, remember to delete this folder: C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\ (Or might be named New.Net)

In the event that you lose Internet access after removing New.Net, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the "Remove" panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click "Finish>>" then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the program. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

Then post me a fresh HiJackThis log once done. :tazz:

OK!!! I think we're making excellent progress!!! You guyz are the best!!!
Here's my latest log per your request.

I had to do the last set of instructructions twice because I noticed O18 wasn't gone ... it is now.

I also checked my email ... I am now able to write in the body of the email.

One lingering problem (unless you spot others) ... when I log onto the internet I get a semi blank screen ... it has the toolsbars ; across the top of the screen it says about:blank - Microsoft Internet Explorer.

I then have to click on an SBC icon which takes me to the correct and active page. That page says SBC Yahoo! DSL - Microsoft Internet Explorer. ????

Ok, let's do this online scan instead then:

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Standard
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • This program will start to scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
    • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

First..

Download CleanUp
Install the program, dont run it yet, we will later.

Then disable System Restore;

1. Click Start > Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer
2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check the "Turn off System Restore"
5. Click Apply. An message shows up.
6. Click "Yes" to do this.
7. Confirm with "Ok".

Now run the CleanUp program:

*IMPORTANT NOTE*
CleanUp deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups.
If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp

Running CleanUp
  • Start CleanUp by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
  • When CleanUp starts go to the Options button (right side of CleanUp screen)
  • Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
  • Now place a checkmark next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
    • Delete Cookies
This is optional, if you leave the box checked it will remove all of your cookies, at this point removing cookies is a good idea
    • Empty Recycle Bins
    • Delete Prefetch files
    • Cleanup! All Users
  • Click OK
  • Then click on the CleanUp button. This will take a short while, let it do its thing.
  • When asked to reboot system select No
  • Close CleanUp
Enable System Restore;

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" check box.
5. Click Apply, and then click "OK".

Then..

1) Please download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

2) Then please reboot into Safe Mode by restarting your computer and pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

3) Once in Safe Mode, please run Killbox.

4) Select "Delete on Reboot".

5) Open the text file with these instructions in it, and copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\win32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\egdi32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\izxczxcr.exe

6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

7) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot.

Post a fresh HiJackThis log once done. :tazz:
