Great!! The system seems to be running much quicker and smoother. I still have the Microsfy Internet Explorer browser start up page and I have to click on the SBC icon to be where I want to be but that is just an annoyance at this point compared to the other stuff.

Firstly, go ahead and uninstall the following if you want to:

Spy Sweeper
Lavasoft VX2 Cleaner
Kaspersky On-line Scanner
TrojanHunter 4.2
Viewpoint Media Player

Remember to delete the folders as well.

Can you try this browser and let me know if it works properly?

Download and install: http://www.mozilla.org/ :tazz:

I have a subscription to Spy Sweeper --- should I keep it?

My screen is blue again ... I found a simple adjustment to the screen settings that turned it from black to blue.

I didn't know which item at mozilla.com you wanted me to try there are a number of different items.

I got onto the SBC start up page. While on it I changed the ie setting to Use Currant and that seems to work as far as the correct start up page is concerned. I think SBC has a mozilla add on that I may try.

Anything else? Do you think it's "clean"???

No, don't get rid of SpySweeper. It's one of the best anti-malware programs out there.. I thought you had the trial version. Keep it. :tazz:

Download Firefox 1.0.6 (the very first download link, green background)

I think you just should keep it :tazz:

Here's some tips for future to prevent spyware;

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed. (My favourite)
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program <= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kaspersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall <= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser <= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice;
So how did I get infected in the first place? (My favourite)

Install Service Pack 2!

Visit;
http://www.windowsupdate.com and install ALL the critical updates available - reboot.

Take a look at the Extensions/Themes/Tabbed browsing of Firefox.. You'll like it- :)

Of course, you can do a repair for IE.. Though I don't think if it helps.
