Hi all, I've just acquired a laptop PC from work which has Windows NT on it. I'd like to install a copy of Win XP Pro on it. Will it allow me to just upgrade to XP or will I have to reformat and install clean? If so can you please give me a step by step guide (including DOS commands) to help me to do this. I have reformatted and installed operating systems on PCs but its a few years ago and I can't remember the exact way I went about it so I'd be grateful for any reminders or help you can give me. Thanks

I don't remember if you can upgrade form NT to XP, but to check, just put the xp cd in while NT is running, and see if the option to upgrade is available.

If you can't upgrade, then just keep the cd in the drive, reboot your computer (making sure you have boot from cd listed above hard drive in your bios), and when it says 'press any key to run from cd,' press a key and follow the instructions on screen to delete the partition, create a new one and then format and install (which you can all do from the xp setup screen, no dos prompt or commands are needed).

Thanks Fenor, sorry to be a nuisance but can you please remind me how to enter the BIOS to make sure that the 'boot from CD' option is enabled. Thanks.
