I've been asked to look over my fathers’ computer and find out why it's acting so wonky. What I didn't know until I saw it was that this computer has so many issues that I have no clue as to where to start. Any help on this would be appreciated! Here's the HJT log:

We'll use some clean-up tools first - if you already have any of these and you are sure they are the latest version then just skip and move on to the next one.

Click here to download CWShredder. Check for an update then run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy v1.4 - install, update, scan and fix all RED items it finds. Reboot when done.

Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file.
  • Click "Start"
  • Select "Perform Full System scan"
  • Click "Next" to start the scan.
When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found.
  • Click "Next". The bad files will be listed.
  • Right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side.
  • Click "Next" again
  • Click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".
Reboot when done.

Click here to download Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta, check for updates and run it. Reboot when done.

Click here to download ewido security suite - it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido. Then:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin (do not open any folders or open the windows control panel while the scan is in progress).
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here together with the ewido log so that any remnants can be removed manually.

Thank you for your help...

Ewido security suite Has either crashed or frozen every time I've tried to save the log. I've got the HJT log but I'm unable to get the other one. I've tried seven times now. Is there another program I could use?

Here's the HJT log:

Skip it for now - we'll get rid of qoologic and see if that helps. Click here to download FindQoologic-Narrator.

Save it to your Desktop then extract the files from the zip into their own folder called FindQoologic. Open the FindQoologic folder. Locate and double-click the Find-Qoologic.bat file to run it. Wait until a text opens, save it to your desktop, then post it in your next reply here.

Please Download the following tools to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Download Track qoo
    • Save it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
Reboot into Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
  • Click "Start Scan"
  • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
  • Once the Scan is Complete
  • Go to the WinPFind folder
  • Locate WinPFind.txt
  • Place those results in the next post!
Reboot back to Normal Mode!

Double Click on "Track qoo.vbs"

Note - If you Antivirus has Script Blocking, you will get a Pop Up Windows asking you what to do. Allow this Entire Script to Run, its harmless!

Wait a few seconds and a notepad page will pop up, Copy & Paste those results and place them in the next post along with the results of WinPFind!

So, I need 3 logs in your next reply: FindQoologic, WinPFind, and TrackQoo.

I've not heard of it affecting outlook express before. Let's see if it's any better after the following.

Please open Notepad, and copy/paste the code in the box below into a new text file. Save it as KillQoo.reg (set Filetype to "All Files") and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\gnsytsys]

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{4e54baf7-f6ec-4471-bfc7-3b04394e29cd}]

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Copy this entire list of files to the clipboard. (Highlight the list. Press CTRL + C)

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\dkua.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\geqmr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\krxctxc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\npgtrg.exe

In the Killbox, go to the toolbar to File > Paste from clipboard. Click Paste from Clipboard. All of the files you pasted in might not show up on the list in Killbox. That's normal. Some may not be present and so will not be listed. Go ahead to the next step.

Click the red icon with the white X at the upper right. You will be prompted to restart - say yes and exit. Restart back into Windows. Now Locate and DoubleClick KillQoo.reg, allow it to merge into the Registry.

With only HJT running, have it fix:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winsync] C:\WINDOWS\system32\npgtrg.exe reg_run

Reboot again, rescan with HJT and post a new log here.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://home.iwon.com/?v=1
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.iwon.com
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{855F3B16-6D32-4fe6-8A56-BBB695989046} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {1028F737-81E7-452B-A860-E50CAD90A08C} - (no file)
O4 - Global Startup: AdwareFilter Background Protection.lnk = C:\Program Files\AdwareFilter\adwarefilter.exe
O16 - DPF: {C0B285F6-DB2B-4908-9C58-F6D95397D747} - http://www.pacimedia...ll/pcs_0002.exe

Exit HijackThis when done. Reboot, rescan with HijackThis and post a final log here.
