I've read a number of the posts regarding winfixer but I just can't rid of the damned thing...

I've got a number of anti-spyware type products running however they are just finding the symptoms me thinks - not the root cause. In the past I've been able to root out these nasties and remove them however this one has got me stumped....

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\VundoFix

First of all, open Spybot S&D, click Mode>Advanced>Tools>Resident and remove the check from the Tea Timer box. You can reinstate it later but we don't want it interfering with what we need to do. Reboot when done.

With only HJT running, fix this entry:

Reboot again, rescan and post a new HJT log. Otherwise it's looking OK - how is it running now?

Somebody is using this "tool" to try to direct people to their websites....

Someone "distributes" this "tool" and is trying to/or is making money from it...

In this case is it the WinFixer company that's using it... I suppose so.

When you look at all the people on this forum who have been disadvantaged - had their time wasted or even had to reinstall windows because of this product legal action from a group of people could be a viable way of stopping this sort of malware. What do you think?

Unfortunately I don't think a civil class action is a flyer. It needs to be criminalised before the courts can stop it.
