How did you figure out your hosts file was missing and to download the winsock tool? A tutorial could help the 1800 other people who looked at your post. :tazz:

Your Winsock and Hosts file were likely corrupted by the malware infection that we removed. We also host tools that would be helpful in repairing:
1. WinsockFixXP here (restores the WinSock registry settngs):

and for Win9X here:

2. You can restore your hosts file to the default with this program:
http://www.geekstogo...=download&id=22

Download it and run. Select the "restore defaults" button.

Thanks, Coachwife! I've been looking through lots of forums to try to fix this problem, and I had seen someone suggest to examine the hosts file and see if any extra IPs were floating around other than the local host. I did a search for the file, and when it didn't come up, that's when I suspected what the problem was... Following that line of research led me to Winsock! I know someone as technically savvy as you guys at GTG could have sat down at this computer and found in the answer in 10 minutes, but it takes me 3 days of internet research to fix even the simple things! :tazz: But to me it's better to learn the hard way than to reload the operating system and take the wasy way out.

Thanks again, Coachwife and Admin, for offering your technical prowess to a person in distress! ;) I hope these posts and your assistance help others the way they've helped me! I'm much obliged for your services!
