Hi

I have had problems with popups - winfix, traffic explorer, some dating agency thing.

Also when opening ebay at the bottom of the window where it says what page is loading I get something along the lines of ---- opening bad url www.addoublleclk\[the ebay page Im opening] - the ebay page opens ok.

Windows update is up to date.

I have ran -:

lavsoft adaware
Clean
Registry mechanic
Agv
and Panda Scan.
Spybot S+D

Lavasoft and RM both fixed problems. Agv found nothing.
Ran Panda Scan it reported 1 virus and 1 security risk but about 2 thirds of the way through ie shut down.

At this point after a reboot I ran S+D it congratulated me on having no problems.

I re ran Panda but picking locations to see where it was failing - the problem is somewhere in the windows directory.

Here is what HiJack This reports -:

Sorry forgot to mention.

When I rebooted after I first ran Panda. I opened up ie and it immediatly popped up with winfix as a 2nd window taunting me as I had failed to remove it.

Also the ebay problem - I have just noticed it happening when I load other pages and it is doubleclick.net

I have since ran ewido and trojan hunter both found numerous problems.

I now have ewido security gaurd running it keeps telling me it has found malaware.
The file it points to is vtsqo.dll in system32 directory.

Searching the net suggested it was a vundo/monde problem. I followed the fix instructions on Symantec website - its fixes said it could not find the infection.

Here's the lates HijackThis log -:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • Please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: cdvd - C:\WINDOWS\
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: req - C:\WINDOWS\
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: vtsqo - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtsqo.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

This file is sometimes showing up as a false possitive, I would like to sure though, Do you have a password recovery program running on your computer,

Make sure you can view all Hidden Files/Folders

Please double-click on My Computer and locate the file " C:\WINDOWS\system32\wecitlju\pspv.exe". Right-click on it and choose "Properties", then click on the "Version" tab at the top. Click on "Comments", "Company", "File Version", and "Internal Name" and please post whatever the text in the box immediately to the right says for each.

Post back what you find please

on disk 40.0KB (40,960)
created 05 August 2005 15:01:59

No company name ? If not or if you don't regconize it
Go ahead and reboot to safe mode and delete the file

rerun a scan again and it should come back clean now,

Aside from that
Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

First Off,
*Be sure and reset your hidden Files and Folders*

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here for XP

See Here for ME Name it clean or something like that,
