Imapi.exe causes computer to freeze at start up [RESOLVED]

Hey guys/gals,

When I start up my computer, it loads MSN and such for about 15 seconds then freezes. Any programs already opened I can fool around with, but icons and startbar are all frozen. Although I can still do stuff in the task manager.

Now I deleted the explorer process, and then opened it again. Doing so I noticed that a process named imapi.exe would start up, freeze my comp, then turn off.

Hello,

Uninstall via software add/remove next programs:

SideFind
YourSiteBar
Daily Weather Forecast
IST Service
SurfAccuracy
BullsEye Network
Internet Optimizer

REBOOT afterwards.

After reboot, start hijackthis > config (bottom right) > misc tools > delete a file on reboot.
In the field, copy and paste next: C:\WINDOWS\q18043578_disk.dll

Click Ok.
Hijackthis will tell you that this file will be deleted on next reboot and if you want to reboot now. Click yes.

Your system must reboot now.

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoft....pport/download/

After installing AAW, and before running the program.
Please be sure to update the reference file following the instructions here:
http://www.lavahelp.net/howto/updref/

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

Click the 'Scanning' button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select 'Scan within Archives'.
Click 'Click here to select Drives + folders' and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the 'Advanced' button.
Under 'Log-file detail level', select all options.
Click the 'Tweaks' button.

Under 'Scanning Engine', select the following:
'Unload recognized processes during scanning.'
Under 'Cleaning Engine', select the following:
'Let Windows remove files in use after reboot.'
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.

Post a new hijackthislog.

Unfortunately I wasen't able to remove all those programs as the "Add or Remove Software" menu just wouldnt load the programs since it froze along with the explorer. But I was still able to do the other things such as running Ad-Aware. Here is my updated log, explorer still freezes though, thanks for the help so far.

* Download Killbox.
Unzip it and Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".

Now copy the next bold:

C:\Program Files\Peqru\Vnqz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\q7234312_disk.dll
C:\Program Files\Daily Weather Forecast\weather.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\qlink32.dll

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Now you will see, this is pasted in the "Full Path of File to Delete"-field.
There's a little arrow (dropdown-arrow) next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines must be there together if the files are present!

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot.. Click YES
When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.
Click No at the Pending Operations prompt.

Your computer must reboot now.

After reboot..

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

Alright, I completed all steps but one.

Killbox had an error deleting C:\WINDOWS\q7234312_disk.dll
It said "File could not be deleted".

Explorer still freezes.

Hi, you didn't use the 'delete on reboot'-option in killbox.

So copy and paste this line in killbox again:

C:\WINDOWS\q7234312_disk.dll

Check delete on reboot
Then press the button with the X in it and your system must reboot automatically.

Post a new hijackthislog afterwards. :tazz:

YAY! Explorer doesnt freeze anymore! Sorry about forgetting to check delete on reboot.

Hi, yes, I think we fixed it now. :tazz:

The only thing we need to check and fix in hijackthis is this leftover:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: style32 - C:\WINDOWS\q7234312_disk.dll (file missing)

Also, Perform a full scan with an updated Adaware SE and/or Spybot S&D to get rid of the leftovers.
If you don't have Spybot S&D yet, you can find the downloadlocation in my sig.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates, so visit asap: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to update to SP2.
