hi,

lately norton has been popping up and asking me if i want to allow or deny certain connection with certain programs and they all have a similar name eg. 3043.exe, 18461.exe and many more. below is the norton popup box and a screenshot of my temp file where these files are located. im unsure as to how they got there as i have never opened them etc. i think its a registry problem as when i delete them more are recreated. any help as to how i can remove this problem would be appreciated. thanks in advance. -eVo

Hello :tazz:

If you're still having trouble, We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and reply here with your log.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

OK thanks,

ive been through most of those steps and a few adware and spyware were found and deleted then i manually had a look through my program files and found a file called weather.exe. i couldnt delete it cause it was in use so i terminated the process and then deleted. i think that may have been the file that was causing me the problem. after the deletion i did a hijackthis scan and it logged as follows:

Hello evovove :tazz:

Download and install CleanUp! Here
but do not run it yet.
*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {da7ff3f8-08be-4cac-bc00-94d91c6ae7f4} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {f65b197f-8260-4d52-909a-f70118e646eb} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {a19ef336-01d4-48e6-926a-fe7e1c747aed} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Daily Weather Forecast] C:\Program Files\Daily Weather Forecast\weather.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Daily Weather Forecast

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\Daily Weather Forecast

Now run cleanup

Reboot

Please run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here with a new hijack log

No problem :tazz:

your system is clean

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
