Hello :tazz: ! This site looks great and very appropriate for my problems.

I had been infected with all sorts of Trojans and spies via Internet Explorer and I decided few days ago to delete completely IE6 from the PC. Not such a good idea but at least I don't get the spies anymore. The problem is that I still had trojans and weird behaviours on the PC. Maybe I removed too many files... Oups

After loading MOZILLA, I visited your site and did the following:

Download of:
CleanUp
TrojanHunter

which I ran and did remove few trojans

and now Hijack This, with the log below.

I still get a weird message at the boot after the desktop is all set-up saying that there is a problem when loading the gopy.dll file.

And even with trojanHunter I still get two trojans that I cannot remove (access denied): adware.IBIS.tOOLBAR.104 & Adware.IBIS.WinTools.100

PLEASE HELP . Thank you

Hello,

Well, you have some nasty infections here.
Unfortunately, I don't see an antivirus and firewall either. :tazz:
Your windows isn't up to date also. :)

So, download and install an antivirus and firewall.

AVG, Bitdefender OR Avast are good FREE antivirus.
Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decreases the reliability of it seriously!
Zonealarm, Kerio OR Sygate are FREE firewalls.

Understanding and using firewalls

Update your antivirus and let it perform a full scan and let it delete everything it is finding.

Reboot afterwards.

Then, via start > control panel > software, uninstall next programs:

WinTools
WebSearch Toolbar
MEDIA GATEWAY
AutoUpdate

Reboot once again.

Download the latest version of Ad-Aware:
http://www.lavasoft....pport/download/

After installing AAW, and before running the program.
Please be sure to update the reference file following the instructions here:
http://www.lavahelp.net/howto/updref/

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan:

Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.

Click the 'Scanning' button.
Under Drives, Folders and Files, select 'Scan within Archives'.
Click 'Click here to select Drives + folders' and select your installed hard drives.

Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the 'Advanced' button.
Under 'Log-file detail level', select all options.
Click the 'Tweaks' button.

Under 'Scanning Engine', select the following:
'Unload recognized processes during scanning.'
Under 'Cleaning Engine', select the following:
'Let Windows remove files in use after reboot.'
Click on 'Proceed' to save these Preferences.

Run the Ad-Aware scan and allow it to remove everything it finds and then REBOOT to allow it to finish.

* Download DelDomains.inf and save it to your desktop.
Rightclick on it and choose 'install'.

Post a new hijackthislog so we can work further from there..

The AAW thingy found !(! suspicous things that I removed.

Finally I installe Deldomains and got the Hijackthis log

Hello,

Let's deal with the leftovers now.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1884fe38-ce34-42d6-a272-ba950f73dfbb} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\tnwnbbxr.zba
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {9C5875B8-93F3-429D-FF34-660B206D897A} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\PERFORMENT003.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PE2CKFNT SE] c:\program files\accessories\ChkFont.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [p46g3pW] WSCYSTEM.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Wito Update] C:\WINDOWS\svchoct.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [said] 1168
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Media Access] C:\PROGRAM FILES\MEDIA ACCESS\MediaAccK.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Y3pmRfatX] WLDEST.EXE
O4 - Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
O16 - DPF: teleir_cert - https://static.ir.dg...teleir_cert.cab
O21 - SSODL: OLE Module - {0656A137-B161-CADD-9777-E37A75727E78} - (no file)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

* Using Windows Explorer, locate the following file and folder and delete them:

C:\WINDOWS\SVCHOCT.EXE <== watch the spelling!! Don't try to delete svchost.exe which is present in your system folder!!
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MEDIA ACCESS <== folder

*Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Reboot and Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I'll take another look.

If you had any problems with deleting files or noticed any other problems during your fix, let me also know in your next reply.

Good ! :tazz:

You are very quick, that's good.

I did the required bits including deletion of SVCHOCT.EXE but could not find MEDIA ACCESS folder even via DOS PROMPT and even when checked on FOLDER OPTIONS: see hidden folders or files.

I also checked on D: and could not find either.

Then I ran cleanmgr and REBOOTED okay.

Hello, I see a clean log. :tazz:

No problem if you couldn't find the media access folder, most probably adaware already deleted that one. :)

How are things running now?

Things are much better now :)

Easy to start and stop the PC and weird things so far. Great :)

Thanks to you I have now lots of protections, however, such protections are only tempo since they are based on short term free licences.

Do you recommend (maybe you are not allowed - I don't know :) ) any firewall, antivirus to buy to ensure long term protection ?

You also mentioned upgrading my Windows ? Will that cost me a lot ?

Thanks again for your quick assistance :tazz:

Hello, updating your windows doesn't cost a thing if your windows 98 is legal.
Just visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
It will scan if your system needs any updates... then you have to download and install them.

The firewall and antivirus you installed is FREE and will stay free and doesn't expire, so you don't have to pay for it. :tazz:

Also, look for FREE antispywarescanners in my signature.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Happy surfing again! :)
