Hello,

I have followed all the directions that I could under the heading:

Do you suspect a malware (Spyware, Virus, Trojan) infection? Please Start Here.

I think I have now removed the PSGaurd that was causing problems, but I still cannot use Internet Explorer nor Outlook. I am worried that there is still some bad stuff on my computer and would like help removing it. I have hijack this on my computer. Is there anything else I need to do before putting that up here.

Thank you so much Geeks to Go for the help you have given me so far! :tazz:

We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool, Hijack This. Follow the instructions in step five of this guide, and reply here with your log.

Most of what Hijack This lists lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

The supelek bogiego\supb.exe is date reminder software. I have had it for a long time.

The only problem I had with your instructions were the fact that I had to download wininet.dll before I could run CleanUp and then had to do it again after restarting system in order to use Internet Explorer to use Panda. Something is deleting it at every start up of the computer. I see it happen before windows actually starts....in dos it says del c:/windows/systems/wininet.dll or something close to that.

Download smitRem.exe and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Open Windows Explorer (right click on Start and then click on explore). Locate and delete the following files -

C:\WINDOWS\SSK_B5.exe
C:\WINDOWS\weirdontheweb_topc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ucmoreiex.exe
C:\WINDOWS\shop1003.exe
C:\WINDOWS\msxmidi.exe
C:\WINDOWS\thin-114-1-x-x.exe
C:\WINDOWS\shop1003.exe

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Remove the check by "View my Active desktop as a web page".
Click OK then Apply and OK.

Reboot the PC into Normal Mode.

Post a fresh HijackThis Logand the contents of the smitfiles.txt log.

Hi,

You may be facing some problems in running your PC and connecting to the net. That is because wininet.dll file has gone missing !!

go to Start>Run box. Type in MSINFO32
then <enter> In the Tools menu, choose IE Repair. Run the repair procedure,
then check to see if McAfee still flags the file. If so, do the same
procedure, except that after pulling up the IE Repair dialogue, choose Add
Components. Put a check mark in every item that is bolded (you want to
reinstall the items that are already installed--the bolded ones.)

If you have any problems with either Repair or the forced reinstall (Add
Components procedure), then go here and download the IE Setup program.
http://tinyurl.com/6n3w and simply reinstall.

Let me know how it goes !! check the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM for wininet.dll file.

Make sure the system and hidden files are visible. For more info read this page - http://www.bleepingc...tutorial62.html

Did what you said and wininet.dll was there. Restarted my computer after reinstalling IE and there is a line in the startup that tells it to delete wininet.dll. It happens after the windows startup screen. It has been doing this since I got PSGuard.

I have downloaded wininet.dll from the internet and it sits zipped on my desktop...when I need it I unzip it and put it in the System folder in Windows....but I shouldn't have to do that, I know.

Is this the only thing wrong now?

Please reboot the PC in Safe Mode.

Reboot the PC in Normal Mode.

Did what you said and wininet.dll was there.  Restarted my computer after reinstalling IE and there is a line in the startup that tells it to delete wininet.dll.  It happens after the windows startup screen.  It has been doing this since I got PSGuard.

Can you tell me where this line is ?? Maybe we can take care of it first and then repeat the process for putting wininet.dll back again

I restarted the computer and made it go line by line...it is in the autoexec.bat on the C: drive where it is deleting wininet.dll. Here is what it does when I ran it through the MS prompt. I copied and pasted it here.
I don't know how to fix a batch in DOS...it has been too long ago. I put my comments inbetween ****comment***

***at this point it usually doesn't say sharing violation...it just goes***

C:\>del C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WININET.DLL
Access denied

***here it usually doesn't say acces denied, but it might say file not found or it will delete wininet.dll****

I keep looking and finding things out on my own...but still need your help. I now see how to view and change this autoexec.bat file. (I haven't done anything to it yet) I am not even sure that I need it on my computer. It is obviously messing things up. Here is exactly what autoexec.bat says:

SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\WINDOWS\Twain_32\Scanwiz;C:\WINDOWS\Twain\Scanwiz
attrib -s -h -r C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WININET.DLL
del C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WININET.DLL

What do I need to do with this? delete it??
