I am having trouble on certain applications where standard GIF files are not being displayed. How can I correct this?

OK, I had a different answer if it was IE....

Let's try someting

Install Ifranview

http://www.irfanview.com/

an image viewing program that supports gifs....set it to change default associations and see if it will view a gif....if it does not, write back.

If it does, try your im client again

installing ifranview may restore some default windows settings that were damaged

No dice...

I don't know if this helps too but where the GIF is, it just shows the file with the square, circle and triangle in it. It isn't broken in half where I have had some broken Quicktime files as well.
