do I use thermal compound?

Greetings, I bought a new Pentium-4, 2.53, {factory boxed}, The heat sink has a black square pad, someone told me not to use Thermal paste that it would do harm to the new CPU, I would have to use either one but not to combine the both. You guys are the PRO'S

What is your suggestion?

yaa dont use grese and the pad but anyways the pad it came with should be fine some good thermal compound is better but since your just using a p4 2.53 you should be fine with the pad
