Java Apps / Apps that need Java

Hey all, whenever i use any app that requires Java it doesnt work. All i do is see the background no buttons or anything.
What i've tried:
- Downloaded the latest Java stuff

Please help i need to install a program for uni and the installation program is in java and i cant see any text or buttons!!!

That's the right stuff. I'd say go into Internet Options, Advanced tab and see if Java shows up, it should list that version, and the java compiler is enabled. You could also enable the console and logging. The problem has to be pretty basic here because the machine actually uses java, the JRE is just a library that other programs use, but I think IE uses it too.

You can go into Programs>Accessories>System tools>System information and expand Software env. and look at 32 bit modules loaded to see if there is any java stuff loaded.
