norton anti-virus keeps telling me i have Bloodhound.EP virus detected in C:\WINNIT\system32\WININIT.dll. Norton cannot delete or quarantine it plus it say it cannot write to a log (?). Plus I keep getting this message over and over having to hit x button many times before it goes away. I have what I thought was a recent Norton anti-virus program, AOL 9.0 security edition, Ad-ware, spybot. Nothing seems to be able to get rid of this Bloodhound virus. Any ideas? Please be kind, I have the computer skills of a brick (took awhile to figure how to just post this)

You've got a few separate infections showing up in your log that will take separate fixes. Just so you know this will take a few steps to get you cleaned up.

Please download SmitRem.zip

• Save the file to your desktop.
• Right click on the file and extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:

• Restart your computer
• After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
• Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
• Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

* if you have trouble getting into Safe mode go here for more info.



Once in Safe mode, follow these steps:

• Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool.
• Follow the prompts on screen.
• Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
• The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Post the log file from Smitrem well as a new hijackthis log.

I think is it. I couldn't go online in safe mode, had to reboot and had to rebuilt AOL adapter after running the scans in safe mode. This was the only smitfiles text i could find, hope this is it. Thanks

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

• Next run CWShredder, making sure to click "Fix".

Save the report(copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.
  
  
• Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • When the scan is finished, click the Save report button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Save the report to your desktop
  Close Ewido
  
  
  
• Finally run a full scan with Adaware.

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new hijackthis log, the Ewido log, and the log from About Buster.
* If the Ewido log is too large to post please attach it to your next reply so that I can still review it.

here is hijack and buster logs. sorry to take so long but i can not get Ewido to work. reinstalled 3 times and will scan for about 45 minutes and then get program error detected by ewidosecurity.e.exe (?) and shuts down. tried and tried, before i reinstall ewido again, i thought i would post these and maybe you have a suggest on Ewido-maybe i am missing something.

Here is new HiJack log. I uninstalled and reinstalled Ewido again and still get program error box saying SecuritySuite.e.exe has generated errors after scanning for about 20-25 minutes. Ewido then shuts down-any ideas? Also-must be doing something right-no longer getting virus alert box detecting Bloodhound virus.

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Run CWShredder, making sure to click "Fix".

Next run About Buster.
Run it again if it finds anything the first time.


Delete your temp files

• Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder.
  • Open the Temp folder
  • Select Edit -> Select All
  • Select Edit -> Delete(or press the delete button on your keyboard) to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.
• Navigate to the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder.
  • Open the Prefetch folder
  • Select Edit -> Select All
  • Select Edit -> Delete(or press the delete button on your keyboard) to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.
• Click Start -> Run and type %temp% in the Run box.
  
  • Select Edit -> Select All
  • Select Edit -> Delete(or press the delete button on your keyboard) to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.
• Click Start -> Control Panel -> Internet Options.
  • Select the General tab
  • Under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files".
  • Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK.
  • Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button.
  • Click Apply then OK.
• Empty the Recycle Bin.

Now try running Ewido again while still in Safe mode. If it crashes again just make a note of it and proceed with the next step. If it runs to completion, please save the log and post in your next reply.


Reboot back to normal mode.
