A friend of mine is running AVG Free Edition on his computer. He gets the following message whenever we try to update his definition files.

"Unfinished update of AVG Free Edition has been detected. To finish the update process, it is necessary to restart the computer. Do you want to restart the computer now?"

We have restarted repeatedly with no effect. I have uninstalled the program and installed a newer version to no effect. The OS has been upgraded from 98 to XP with no effect. I am thinking there is a registry flag out there that needs to be deleted or changed, but I don't have the know-how to find it. Grisoft does not provide technical support for the free edition of AVG.

Any ideas?

Can I ask you to uninstall it again and then download Regcleaner and use that to remove any trace of it from the regestry?

Also do you use a firewall that could be blockinking it?
