I have a Dell Latitude D810 laptop. I just got it about a month ago. I am now having popups of WinFixer 2005 and WinAntiVirusPro 2005. I read through your beginning tips and did the following about a week ago, but the problem still persists.

CleanUp!
Ad-Aware SE scan (removed tracking cookies)
CWShredder scan (removed CWS.VX2.Look2Me)
Spybot S&D scan (removed tracking cookies)
Windows Update
Norton AntiVirus update 7 scan

Hi Cretemonster,

Thank you for your help. Here are my results and a few comments.

VundoFix.exe - You might want to modify your instructions to say doubleclick on KillVundo.bat, press Enter, then type in the following path name, press Enter, etc. I found that after typing in the file path and pressing Enter, I had to type the file path again and then proceed with the instructions.

In VundoFix, I did not have 02-BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DE836 etc.

In VundoFix, The file 020-Winlogon Notify: msvcpc had "(file missing)" at the end of it.

I did not realize I needed to manually turn the laptop off after the blue screen of death. I got a bit worried there!

VundoFix changed my screen Appearance under Properties. Luckily, I went to the right place to get my settings back.

My original post asked how to get rid of a warning from CWShredder. The warning came up again when I was booting up in Safe Mode. Do you know how to get rid of it?

Hi Makita,

VundoFix.exe - You might want to modify your instructions to say doubleclick on KillVundo.bat, press Enter, then type in the following path name, press Enter, etc. I found that after typing in the file path and pressing Enter, I had to type the file path again and then proceed with the instructions.

Those are my instructions and I tried to make them as clear as I could when i was making the tool.

The speech that Cretemonster used for you has been updated, as I ran into a few other users having problems with the exact same thing. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Updated SpywareBlaster to ensure I have the latest protection.
Downloaded the HOSTS File and installed it.
Disabled System Restore.

I now have a couple of questions:

1. It looks like I need to check the HOSTS File site and download it periodically for updates. Is this correct?

2. Do I leave System restore disabled or should I enable it again? I went ahead and enabled it, but will disable again if you say so.

In my original post, I noted an additional problem with CWShredder as follows:

I also have this application error popping up occasionally and would like to remove it if possible:

CWShredder.exe Application Error
The instruction at "0x0012e3f1"
referenced memory at "0x00000001".
The memory could not be "written".

I was scanning some of the other posts and found one that is an exact duplicate of my second problem. It is a post by Tony Canevaro and is being answered by Malware Maniac. The topic title is "CW Shredder & VX2.Look2Me problem". I put my two questions in the same post because I wasn't sure if they were part of the same problem, but now I'm wondering if I should open a new post for the CWShredder problem. Since I've been working on this with you, I've only had the CWShredder error pop up once. If it comes back again, should I open a new topic?

One other piece of information. In one of the other posts, a person mentioned he had downloaded Google Earth prior to having the WinFixer problem. I also downloaded Google Earth (I've since deleted it). I just can't remember if I downloaded it prior to the WinFixer problem or after the problem started.

Then Run Ewido in Safe Mode with all other Windows and Browsers Closed!

I think you will find that entry is the source of the troubles!

Okay, Cretemonster,

I deleted the file with HijackThis as instructed and then ran Ewido in Safe Mode. Ewido found and cleaned TrojanDownloader.ConHook. Hopefully I'll be back to normal now. Thank you for your help.

One last question, should I leave System Restore enabled or disabled?
