Well . .. . there are no popups anymore - YEAH!!

But when I restart Windows is very slow to load up - maybe I have too much going on the start up.

Also when I try to open AOL it is VERRRRRRRY slow to load and sign on . . . .

Don't know if these are problems that can be helped?

Do I have stuff running that in your opinion I should get rid of for better performance?

Hi,

Well I tried to run l2mfix again.

I got this error:

Cant find: C:\DOCUME 1\Pam\Desktop\12mfix\user1.txt

But then a window popped up with a report so here is a log - but I am not sure if it actually ran or not and if this is the right log.

Your log still appears to be clean. Is there anything else malwarewise that you are aware of? And how is the rest of your system running?

Hello,

No, there does not seem to be anymore malware problems. However, the system is running really slow, especially on start-up. What things do I need to get rid of or I can stop running on start-up.

Also in windows when I select a program from the desk-top it takes it forever to load and open . . . don't know what to do about that.

You can start by removing these from the startup group. They don't have to run all the time and they will remain available on an "On demand" basis through Start>>Programs:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AdaptecDirectCD] "C:\Program Files\Roxio\Easy CD Creator 5\DirectCD\DirectCD.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

You open HJT and put a checkmark in the box to the left of the items. Then, with all windows closed, click Fix checked and EXIT the program.

Reboot your system and give it a spin. You should notice a considerable amount "pep' to the old machine.

One of your problems is using Symantec Suite programs. These Suites, from Symantec McAfee and others are the greatest slowdown resource hogs ever. But that is another topic.

Try out the above suggestions and get back to me.

I did the things outlined above and start-up is defintely faster.

Can I get rid of some of the smaller programs that I downloaded to help fix the malware problem?

Still having the problems with programs opening/closing very slowly.

What would you suggest instead of the Norton stuff I have - I am open to getting rid of it and getting something else.

1. If you are not going to use Trojan Hunter full time, then most certainly uninstall it.

2. You have 2 strikes against you. 1 is AOL which slows everything down and a Norton Suite. ALL suites slow things down, not just Norton, and are not worth it because they are resource hogs and at least 1 of their components is not top of the line. Therefore I prefer individual components.

3. Kaspersky Antivirus and NOD32 are good stand alone antivirus programs and combined with something simple like ZoneAlarm Free (which I use) would provide you with a good layer of protection.

4. All other programs, when set to automatically "Guard" your system, will consume a lot of resources.

5. You may want to consider buying some more RAM for your machine.
