Need to install New XP Pro with SP2

Hi, I have a fairly early 'cracked' XP Pro O/S and have problems doing Windows update. When I try to do Windows update, it says I need to do SP1 update. When I choose the update, it says invalid key...... I heard that Microsoft prevents windows update on this cracked version.
So I am planning to install a new XP Pro with SP2 from a CD but I don't want to wipe out my hard drive. Is there any way to install the new XP Pro without losing all my data? Can I put the new CD in and use repair mode to trick the system and install the new O/S? Anything I have to watch out? Thanks in advance. :tazz:
