Up until the last couple of weeks my computer has been running well, but all of a sudden I'm having problems with IE hanging and not responding. When I open a new window it takes ages to respond.

I have defragged and run many virus and spyware checks to no avail. I have also cleaned out all my temporary files. I'm getting quite frustrated as I use Google a lot as I play Interactive Trivia. In the hope that it will help, I attach myHijackThis log and would be grateful if some knowledgeable person would give me some advice to solve my dilemma.

Yes - tried all those things last week - says my system is clean. It has been suggested the solution may be as simple as needing more RAM.

Thank you for your prompt reply,

Regards,

Sorry, I should have looked at your log more closely before posting that canned reply. I don't see anything malicious in your log. How much RAM do you have?

Try downloading the new version of Hijack This. It's in my signature. It may turn up something new.

Hey, you have been busy haven't you? I saw a lot of fix programs in your log. Good job.

I think I may have identified your problem.\

Read this thread.

http://www.bitdefend...u_id=1&v_id=147

I think this may be our culprit. c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery\Blank.htm

You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

Please save Hijack This in a permanent folder (i.e. C:\HJT). This ensures backups are saved and accessible.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Stationery\Blank.htm

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =

O2 - BHO: Search Relevancy - {1D7E3B41-23CE-469B-BE1B-A64B877923E1} - C:\PROGRA~1\SearchRelevancy\SearchRelevancy.dll

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = proxy.ozemail.com.au:8080 (Do you know what this is? If you don't, you can get rid of it)

Reboot in safe mode - lightly touch F8 when the computer restarts and get rid of this file if it's there.

C:\PROGRA~1\SearchRelevancy\

Get rid of your temp. files and reboot.

Please run a free online virus scan here (tick the "Auto Clean" checkbox):
http://housecall.antivirus.com/

Post a new log and we'll see if that got it. :tazz:

Did the virus scan turn up anything? How is it working?

Getting rid of the search relevancy was necessary. It was a baddie.
