A couple of weeks ago during my weekly spyware/virus checks CW Shredder detected VX2.Look2me. I ran fix but it was still present after a reboot with the message, " CW Shredder encountered a problem and needed to close" and I'd get another error dialog box, " CWShredder.exe-Application error".
I downloaded the Adaware VX2 v2.0 plug in and it did not detect anything.
I ran Symantec Spyware.Look2me Removal tool v1.01 and it too did not detect anything.
I ran theCleanup utility (it took a long time to clean things out).
I performed anti spyware scans with Spybot, Spyware Doctor, SpySubtract and fixed any problems it found. I have spywareblaster. FYI I cannot keep spyware guards Venus flytrap on because it keeps detecting something and when I try to fix it it pops up a second later.
I downloaded and ran Trojan Hunter and it found nothing.
I ran my resident Norton 2005 anti-virus program and it found nothing.
I ran A Tren on-line scan and it found Vundo trojan and deleted it.
Iran Panda activescan and it crashed twice scanning 'My Computer' and almost made to the end after selecting 'local disc' (I unloaded TrojanHunter after the second crash so maybe that was the problem) but it detected & disinfected 3 virus and detected 3 spyware + 1 suspicious file.
The system is a slower than normal and I've been getting the winfixer and winantispyware pop ups.
I've been reviewing the various forum fixes and see that each case is unique and requires individual attention. I hope you guys can give me a step by step guide to remove this malware and any other problems you see that are evident to me to bring my system back to a smooth running processing machine (I'm also concerned that I may have to many process running which may not be normal). I am pretty paranoid about malware and update the utility definitions weekly and scan as much.
BTW its a family computer set up with four accounts - does that complicate the clean up procedure?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Thanks for your aid loophole - I was getting concerned if someone would look at my problem because I see you guys are inundated with problems.

I still have a problem - my comp doesn't seem the same and I get the winantispy pop up plus I got a new one today about some travel agency.

I updated all my AS tools this week and Spyware doctor now detects VX2.Look2me, winfix & winantispy but even after cleaning them they keep coming back. And my CWShredder still says it removes VX2.Look2me but after reboot I still get the eror message and it's still there.

I have four acounts setup and it seems I have to run SPyware doctor on each account (doesn't scan the comp globally). Is this normal?

This is my latest Hijack this log:

If this infection is on all 4 accounts , we mayhave to do them all
I believe if you log in as the administrator SD will scan all accounts

Lets begin :tazz:

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
    it should look like this

    VundoFix V2.1 by Atri
By pressing enter you agree that you are using this at your own risk
Please seek assistance at one of the following forums:
    http://www.atribune.org/forums
    http://www.247fixes.com/forums
    http://www.geekstogo.com/forum
    http://forums.net-integration.net

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqo.dll
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\oqtss.dll.* This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqo.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: sstqo - C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqo.dll

  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Thanks for the quick reply but I'm off to a bad start and really starting to worry.

I've gone in safe mode before with no problem. When going into safe mode I have a choice to log in as administartor, my account, or my sons, I tried each and could not get the desktop because the dialogue box asking you to press yes to proceed would come and go so fast. After a few tries I was able to click on it but still nothing happened - only a black screen with safe mode info on top - no desktop. I did some soft restarts & a hard reboot but still could not get in. Is this infection that intelligent?

I got a dumb question. If I manage to get into safe mode and run the Vundo fix I'm not clear on what to type in the second time. Is it " C:WINDOWS\system32\oqtss.dll. " - with just the period or also with the * after the period ?

Please do this also

Go to start then run. Copy and paste this in:

regedit /e c:\safeboot.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot"

Now open My computer, then Cdrive.

In there you will see a file called safeboot.txt, please copy and paste that on to this post.

Thanks :tazz:

Hello Loophole & staff,

Any ideas on how to get into safe mode?

I've been trying every day and I still can't get in. If I'm fast enough to hit 'yes' to proceed it goes to desktop but then the desktop disappears a couple seconds later. I once hit a shortcut and it opened it up but the dektop disappeared again a few seconds later.

Any ideas on why all of the sudden I cannot keep the safe mode active.

I see many people have similar malware problem as mine and seem to be getting fixes. I thought I'd be on that route except now for this other problem.

Please help.

Lets try this

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit

Double-click killbox.exe
Select the following options:

"Delete on reboot"
"End Explorer Shell While Killing File"
"Unregister .dll Before Deleting" (if not greyed out).

Now highlight and 'copy' (Ctrl + C) the entire list of filepaths below:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oqtss.dll

Click 'File' on the killbox menu at the top and choose 'Paste from clipboard'
Then press the red button with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot, click Yes.
When it asks if you would like to reboot, click Yes
If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

Post a new hijack log

I followed your instructions in normal mode (can't get into safe mode) under my account (and not any of the other three).

When I copiedthe filepath and 'clipboarded" it into the box only the first line showed up not the second one with c:\*\*\oqtss.dll.

Do I need to do anything on the other accounts? Does Hijack this give a snapshot of the comp with all accounts set up or only the running account.

here my log.

What is the next step? Has anyone found a fix to not getting the desktop in safe mode?

I'm still getting winantispy & matchmaker pop-ups.

Hope to hear from you.
