HELP !!! I thought I corrected this problem by deleting a 020 win logon notification and removing the registry items associated with it, but this 020 keeps coming back as a different entity

I have run Adaware, spyware doctor, spybot, aol spyware, windows beta spyware,
the closest I came was adaware removing files on startup (guard.dll), but it still doesnt work................this is my hijack file, I see other people attaching this, so I figure it has to be helpful

I understand how busy it must be.....I appreciate all the help I can get

Hijack scan is the same as before, nothing has changed from the original, so I posted the same logfile. the popups are coming on more and more frequently, they open in explorer when I am online with internet explorer and animated ads come up at other times(not as a web page)

Hello rxdotcom :tazz:

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Thanks

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Great :tazz: Not sure about the error but the tool worked

Lets clean up the leftovers

Please run this online virus scan:
Panda Active Scan You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here. Also post a new Hijack log

Thanks :)

Click here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit

Now open pocketkillbox Select the option "Delete on reboot".
Now highlight and 'copy' (Ctrl + C) the entire list of filepaths below:
Click 'File' on the killbox menu at the top and choose 'Paste from clipboard'
The entire list should now be in the "Full Path of File to Delete"
field. To check, click on the dropdown-arrow next to that field.
If you expand it, these lines should all be there

C:\My Download Files\WinBejSetup-dm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\inst2.inf
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\installer_MARKETING48.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\installer_MARKETING61.exe
C:\WINDOWS\trufkz.html

Then press the red button with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot, click YES.When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES.

Post a new hijack log and tell me how your system is running now.

Thanks :tazz:

ran killbox, I didnt have any popups before I ran killbox, but I ran it anyway..

I appreciate all the help you have given me, the prompt response to all my problems, and proved to my wife that not everyone offering advise is up to something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS>>>can I run L2wMfix from time to time to avoid problems in the future?
and should I do a restore point to this date to solve future problems?

Killbox creates that folder and you can delete that folder. The other file is probably gone but to be safe I would run it through killbox again.

tell me how your system is running now.

Thanks :tazz:

popups are gone, in fact they stopped BEFORE I ran killbox, but I deleted those files anyway..

should I run lm2fix once in a while to keep the system running soothly, or just wait till I have another problem? (hopefully never again!!)

I want to thank you for all your help...this site is amazing and I wonder if I should tell more people about it, or keep it to myself? You seem to be busy enough right now..

Nah its a specialized tool for this infection you had and you better not get it again :) Go ahead and delete it

your system is clean :tazz:

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
And also see TonyKlein's good advice
So how did I get infected in the first place? and Spyware Aid's spyware article: Spyware, Adware, Malware: What it is, how it got on my computer, how to get rid of it, and how to prevent it.
