I am using a different PC to send this message.
My laptop is infected with what I believe to be either Smitfraud or Agent.Eo trojan.

Initially the desktop was replaced by a black screen with a blue warning relating to Smitfraud.c

No other icons were visible, no taskbar and the only thing i could open was task manager via Ctrl-Alt-Del.

I have checked the instructions for removal of this trojan but they all seem to start from the one thing I cannot see, the desktop.

I have put the laptop hard drive into another PC to see if I could locate the files listed and remove them manually. I removed the wp.bmp file but now the laptop starts with a black screen, no blue error message but still no icons or task bar.

Can you please advise me on the best removal procedures for theis trojan when the desktop is not visible.

I have a fair understanding of DOS commands if that helps.

Here's hoping....

Welcome to GTG.

Yes, that would be great since you know some DOS there. I want you to do the following:

Please read the first link in my signature and follow the steps outlined there. When you are ready, post the HijackThis log here.

Burn those programs on a CD. Then put them on this computer. Install them via the Task Manager or command prompt if you can. Then run them from the Task Manager or command prompt.

After you do all that, I want a HijackThis log (also run it from Task Manager or command prompt if you still don't have the desktop back).
