Here's the problem:

I installed Limewire a little while back and used it for a couple of weeks, it then appeared to take over my computer. I got a pop-up for Winfix that I must have somehow installed and then both Winfix 2005 and Limewire started opening automatically when I signed on. I even checked off the auto logon feature from Limewire and it appears to have ignored that. I uninstalled both of the yesterday and have been getting a strange message asking me to reinstall it. It seemt a little odd as my computer seems fine and I am concerned about loading a virus if that is possible. Is anyone aware of problems with Limewire. I believe Winfix 2005 is not what it appears.

This is the message I have been getting:

"One or more necessary files appear to be invalid. This is generally caused by a corrupted installation. Please try downloading Limewire again. If the problem persists, please copy and paste the message below and send it to [email protected]. Thank You."

This is the message that they asked me to copy (sorry for the length):

since you are another victim of P2P let the malware guys see if they can clean up the mess you've made
Please go to the malware forum in my signature and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE .

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty--and you may not be-- then post a hijackthis log in THAT forum.

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread.

Not to promote illegal downloads through p2p programs, but Limewire is a p2p program that is known to be malware free. Unless you downloaded it off a third party site, there should not be a problem. Make sure you uninstalled it completely. If you have some kind of malware, it's most likely due to something else.

True, if you were downloading any exe or zipped files, you most likely got the malware from there.
