Well, that is a new one on me. Type in "msconfig" on that run line, if you don't mind, and copy and paste your "boot.ini" file, please?

msconfig got me a System Configuration Utility
clicking on BOOT.INI got this
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect

I dont know how to copy and paste that information, so I wrote it down--I hope I got it right

Do that SFC with the cd you do have. I don't know why it is asking for a pro cd, but if you know that is your cd, use it. Your computer "thinks" it's a Home, and that's what matters.

Also right click on the network icon, or go into Network Properties and choose to "repair connection". I think you may have clicked on the desktop, not the notification area network icon Looks like two monitors in the bottom right and kinda blinks when it is working) Let us know.
