The last time I tried to download and install sp2 it crashed my system..Any suggestions before I do it again? I really do not want to reformat again..

Try to scan for Viruses and Spyware and also adware before installing SP2 see if that helps

ok also defrag your pc then run disk cleanup then after you done all the steps i told you to do then see if it works ok

oh do you clean out your PREFETCH FOLDER ?

ok go to START > SEARCH > ALL FILES AND FOLDERS > MORE ADVANCE OPTIONS > TICK HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS then search Prefetch should be a folder and then DELETE all the contents and then after you done RESTART then run disk cleanup then run disk defragmenter
