Hi,

I just bought a hitachi 40gb travelstar hard drive for my hp pavilion n5440 notebook. I took the old hard drive out and put the new one it. When I got it all put back together, it did not recognize the hard drive. When I go into the bios it says hard drive: none. Do you know what I can do to get it installed???

Thanks a lot for the help!!

This is an older machine. What version of BIOS does it have? Some of the older machines don't "natively" support drives larger than about 33gb. They can with drive overlay software, but most of the Japanese HDD makers don't supply software with their disks. Did you get a software CD? If so put it in a machine and find if it can help you.

What you might be able to do is get a BIOS upgrade for your machine.

The hard drive did not come with a software CD. I guess I will look for a BIOS upgrade.
