I am having problems with the MSblank virus which my homepage to windows\system32\msblank.html and possibly others like wareout.exe. I used spybot, adaware and all the other recommended solutions for automated fixes but they didn't work. I also did a virus scan and found 2 trojan horses (666.exe and winctrl16.exe) and deleted them using the virus software. Not sure if they are completely gone though.

I also keep getting a error message about a maxd1.exe file not working properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome street30 to Geeks to Go!

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

***

You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder for it and move the program into the new folder

***

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://forums.subrat...e=post&id=43811
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

***

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = C:\WINDOWS\System32\msblank.html

O1 - Hosts: localhost 127.0.0.1

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {08BEC6AA-49FC-4379-3587-4B21E286C19E} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ControlPanel] C:\WINDOWS\System32\popcorn72.exe rundll.dll,LoadMouseProfile

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [WareOut] "C:\Program Files\WareOut\WareOut.exe"

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D3646B35-CC9D-4371-9ADB-DFA719A9EE39}: NameServer = 69.50.177.202,85.255.112.23

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{D86D8C9F-AEB2-41E2-816C-599FEA3184B9}: NameServer = 69.50.177.202,85.255.112.23

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{DC76A73F-618C-4267-9FAD-F1BCC60781DB}: NameServer = 69.50.177.202,85.255.112.23

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{EA97FF0F-1D3C-4929-8169-4F5F12DF1DB7}: NameServer = 69.50.177.202,85.255.112.23

Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.

***

Please do an online virus scan with Panda ActiveScan Here. You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  • A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  • A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  • Click on Scan Now! >
If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  • From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  • Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  • When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  • I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.
***

Reboot once more.

***

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, the Panda report and a new HijackThis log.

Here is the new hijackthis log. I tried deleting the 01 Hosts local host 127.0.01 line but it came back after boot up. Could this be part of wireless host that I am currently using? I am on the road traveling right now. FYI, It appears that the msblank is longer a problem though as I have gotten my homepage back.

I also tried using the Panda activescan, but half way through the scan all my browser windows closed and the scan stops. I ran it again and stopped it before it could shutdown and here is the log below. I also did a trend housecall virus scan and it came up clean with that. Thanks for the help!

I'm sorry, please run the hoster as described.

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\WOINST32.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\Help\SPAlert.chm
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\maxd1.exe

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.
Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
