<_< I a trying to connect my computer to my Sony ST-D595 stereo receiver amplifier. They are both connected but i get no sound. How can i tell if there is a pulse? Is there a certain program i need? Can this even be done? is Coaxial the way to go? i wan't :D sound quality and surround 5.1 capabilities.

Digital is the best quality connection. I don't know how you test an optical connection. :D

I'd guess your problem is just a setting on your receiver. I know on my Sony to activate optical input requires pressing a special "5.1 Digital" button.
