Recently I had the motherboard on my Dell Computer w/xp pro replaced under warranty. Since that time the MS Wheel Mouse (USB) periodically stops working until you disconnect the usb cable from the computer and then reconnect. It is then OK again until a few hours later the same problem reoccurs. The same thing happens with the keyboard (serial) and card reader (usb). They will suddenly occur without warning and stop working until you disconnect the usb cable or serial cable and reconnect it to the computer. Can anyone help?

Hi,

I would first reinstall the usb controller drivers, I think on a dell the are located on a drivers disk that came with the computer. I would also reinstall the drivers for the card reader and usb mouse.

Make sure you have all the MS critical updates and any driver updates that are available.

If that don't fix the problem I would then format and reistall the OS and drivers that came on the disks that came with the computer and again get all the MS updates. I suggest this because sometimes when doing a major upgrade/replacement such as a mobo there are glitches that only a format and reinstall seem to fix.

Check [PROPERTIES] > [POWER MANAGEMENT] TAB - setting of COM PORTS & USB HOST CONTROLLER INTERFACE - that it is not set [CHECKED] to:

"Conserve Power"
