Ok gurus! I'm usually fairly self sufficent when it comes to cleaning "unwanteds" out of my system. I often tackle my friends systems and get them up and running again. But Winfixer 2005 and Winantispyware 2005 have me stumped! I've updated AVG antivirus and run it. I've updated AdAware and Spybot and run them. I've run the newest CwShredder. I've run several utilities mentioned on these forums. Nothing. I'm still infected with this %#))@. I NEED your help with this one. I'm at a loss. Seeing that I need to come at this fresh I will post nothing until told to do so. I will run nothing until told to do so. I am the humble student. I wait to hear from you oh masterful teacher!

I see you have been infected by malware. Lets get you fixed up.
Please follow the directions as closely as you can . Lets begin

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  
• You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

• Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
  
• Delete Cookies
  
• Delete Prefetch files
  
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Please run this online virus scan:
Panda Active Scan You need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.

• Once you get to the Panda site, scroll down a bit and click on Scan your PC
  
• A new window will appear; click on Check Now!
  
• A new window will appear; fill in the boxes (Country, State, email addy)
  
• Click on Scan Now! >
  If you have never used ActiveScan before, you will be prompted to install an ActiveX control (asinst.cab) : click on Install. Panda will install the component, and then install the latest signature files.
  
• From "Select a device to scan...", choose "My Computer"
  
• Allow the scan to run. It'll take a while.
  
• When complete, click on "See Report", and then on "Save report"; save it to a convenient location.
  
• I will need you to post that report in your next reply; simply open the text file, then copy/paste the content here.

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Well I haven't seen any more popups yet. It wouldn't happen all the time, but I'm pretty sure we got it! My boot up time seems slightly slower, but that could be nothing. I still have to clear the extra icons and folders from the desktop. Also durring the fix, when I booted into safe mode I had no desktop. I had to search for and run programs from the task manager. I haven't had this problem before in safe mode. A quick look at the running processes showed that explorer.exe wasn't running. Heard of this before?

Other than that the system seems to be running good. All systems GO! Thanks again!

I do have a few questions regarding my HJT log. Should I ask here or start a new topic? Also since I have no doubt that my friends and family will call me with a similar problem. Is there somewhere I can learn more about removal of such pests or should I just direct everyone here? I wouldn't mind a better understanding of the HJT logs.
