Hi wegodzilla, welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

Malicious .DLL file(s) has/have disrupted the LSP chain on your computer. This can be seen by the (010) entry(ies) in your HJT log. We must fix this problem as a priority.

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Then on the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP.

2. Download the LSPfix.txt and read the readme file.

3. Download LSPfix.zip or LSPfix.exe

4. Close all windows except LSPfix

5. Launch LSPfix.zip and install to its own folder, then click on LSPfix.exe. Or click on LSPfix.exe and it will launch the program.

6. Put a check mark in the box “I know what I am doing

7. Click ‘Finish

7. REBOOT to complete the task.

8. Now RUN HJT, click Scan and POST a new log file in this thread using “Add Reply”.

Regards,

Trevuren

BEFORE BEGINNING, Please read completely through the instructions below and download the files from the links provided. You may want to save or print out these instructions for easier reference.

1. Download Ewido Security Suite.

2. Download Lavasoft's Ad-Aware and the VX2 Cleaner Plug-in.
  • Install Ad-Aware using the default options.
  • Then install vx2cleaner_inst.exe, using all the defaults there as well.
3. Run Ad-Aware
  • Update to the latest definitions
  • Then click on Add-ons in the lefthand column.
  • Select VX2 Cleaner V2.0 and click Run Tool. Click "OK".
  • If something is found, click "Clean" as in the directions given.
  • Click "Close", and EXIT Ad-Aware.
4. Reboot your PC and run Ad-Aware again.
  • This time, click on the Start button in Ad-Aware
  • Select "Perform smart system scan" and click Next.
  • Once the scan finishes, click "Next" again.
  • Select all objects found ("right click anywhere in the list of found objects and click "Select All Objects").
  • Click "Next" one more time, then "OK" to confirm the removal.
  • You will be prompted to set Ad-Aware to run on reboot, click "OK".
  • Exit Ad-Aware
  • REBOOT your PC
  • When Ad-Aware starts up, click on "Start", then "Next".
  • Follow the steps above if anything is found, or click "Finish", then EXIT Ad-Aware.
5. For a final cleanup, please install and run Ewido.
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.
  • If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. We have been finding some cases of false positives with the new version of Ewido, so we need to step through the fixes one-by-one. If Ewido finds something that you KNOW is legitimate (for example, parts of AVG Antivirus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk" have been flagged), select "none" as the action. DO NOT check "Perform action with all infections". If you are unsure of an entry, select "none" for the time being. I'll see that in the log you will post later and let you know if ewido needs to be run again.
  • When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.
6. Please finish up by rebooting your system once more, and posting a new HijackThis log and the log from the Ewido scan.

Regards,

Trevuren

1. I want you to UNINSTALL the following programs through the ADD/REMOVE feature of your Control Panel:

SurfSidekick3

2. Now, using Windows Explorer, I need you to DELETE the following folder(s) and all their content:

C:\Program Files\SurfSidekick3

3. REBOOT your system,

4. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok
  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

Hello, I am currently on my computer (The computer we are fixing is my roommates, in the other room). I am having troubles again removing the surfersidekick 3 folder. It says its in use. Also i was unable to delete repairs.dll for the same reasons. I deleted all the other files if they were present with no problems.

I have not yet rebooted the computer into normal mode because i am waiting to see what you have to say about the surfersidekik 3 folder and repairs.dll

Thanks Again!!!!

A. Finish by cleaning what you can. Reboot .

B Your difficulty getting rid of Sursidekick and "repairs.dll" and intertwined. On the cases where we can ININSTALL surfsidekick the "repairs" dll disappears.

C. 1. Download RegLite from here
http://www.resplendence.com/downloads

2. REBOOT into Safe Mode

3. Open Reglite and Copy&Paste the bold text below into the Address Bar and hit EnterHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
4. In the smaller left hand pane-> Right Click the Windows folder (Highlighted in Blue)Select Rename-> Rename it to Windoz-> Hit Enter
5. In the larger right hand pane-> locate and double click AppInit_DLLsUnder Value-> Remove(Delete)-> repairs.dll
6. Open the Search Assistant (Click Start>>Click Search)
  • Select All Files and Folders,
  • Select Advanced Options,
  • Make sure there is a check by every box under Advanced options
7. Under All Files and Folders, enter this into the text box:repairs.dll
Delete any exact matches

8. Restart and Open Reglite again
  • Locate the folder you renamed to Windoz
  • Rename it again, back to Windows.
9. Have HijackThis fix this entry (if its still there):

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: repairs.dll

Allrighty, I did what you said and I was able to delete repairs.dll!!! :) Thank you so much! Ok then i used windows add/remove programs to uninstall sufersidekick like you said before. then i used HJT and checked this line:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe

Then i rebooted (still in safe mode) and here is my latest HJT log:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {02EE5B04-F144-47BB-83FB-A60BD91B74A9} - C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\SskBho.dll (file missing)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [20o9ojoo] C:\WINDOWS\system32\20o9ojoo.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ZStart] C:\windows\system32\oodxregx.exe DO0605
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [wincin] C:\DOCUME~1\Jennifer\LOCALS~1\Temp\w181609.Stub.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Nsv] C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc\nsvsvc.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vidctrl] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vidctrl\vidctrl.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SurfSideKick 3] C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3\Ssk.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [removeCOM] cmd /c IF NOT EXIST "C:\WINDOWS\system32\communicator.dll" (IF EXIST "C:\WINDOWS\system32\PreUninstallCOM.exe" del /s /q "C:\WINDOWS\system32\PreUninstallCOM.exe")

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.
  • Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

    C:\Program Files\SurfSideKick 3<===Folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\20o9ojoo.exe
    C:\windows\system32\oodxregx.exe
    C:\DOCUME~1\Jennifer\LOCALS~1\Temp\w181609.Stub.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsvsvc<==Folder
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vidctrl<==Folder

  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.
